I ask this because I have two colleagues whose marriage was arranged by their parents and they were ok with it. Perhaps, it's not such a bad idea, listening to these two women tell, but I dunno. What do you think?arranged marriage

Good point. No one knows. People can grow to love each other, but each person is different.

It depends on many factors, like culture, ethnic background but MOST importantly, personal choice. I dont wanna have an arranged marriage because I believe that I have the right to choose my wife. But my parents are against that. Top of that, my sister wants to have an arranged marriage. But it is her choice... ANywaz, we can show logic from both the con and the pro sides. But it depends on the two souls entirely and they should be given the opportunity to take the decision...

That's the point. Not everyone does want an arranged marriage. Some that I've known want to be able to choose from a group of candidates their parents choose.
Of course, plenty of people don't get to choose, and that's usually women in certain places in the world, but that's an entirely other topic.

If they are truly for it and informed it's Ok. If just pressured then it's not. I knew a girl who didn't want to hurt her parents but was frightened to death and hated the guy they picked out. He was an old business guy compared to her and unappealing to look at for her. She was holding the ring he gave her and crying on the school bus.

Yep, that's what I think. One of the girls that had an arranged marriage with one caveat, she got to choose from a pool of candidates her parents chose. Maybe, it's changing even in countries that have arranged marriages as the norm...

Not for some. But it's hard to say overall. In todays world it seems harder to do, but then again, it depends on how you were raised and what your expectations are.

I've never known anyone who was in an arranged marriage.I would guess it could work just as well.

I never knew any personally before, but we have a lot of immigrants in my city from countries where that's typical. It came to my attention when it was people I actually knew.
    Thank you.

I wouldn't do it either, I understand. I just didn't believe until recently that this practice was far more common than I thought in today's' world...
    Thanks!

I never did, but some people seem ok with it, and see marriage differently, like a contract.

    Thanks!

Oh, I already knew that. Thanks though. Traditional marriage in the US has been restrictive to say the least and economics were also a huge factor. People that had money and high status in this country always had luxury to choose, but the rest never had that.

These women at my job are from India and their parents set up the marriages, they seemed ok with it, and told me they didn't really care for the Western dating. They meant it too....

To them, having an arranged marriage is a contract both economically and to bring families together. I personally would not want to because I have no desire to pay alimony to any guy, and that's for starters....

Yeah, true. I just wondered what other people thought about it. It used to be the norm everywhere. I suppose some people just prefer it. Easier? I dunno. Better? Maybe. Would I try it? No, but I wonder who would or did.....

    Thank for the links.

My parents are dead so the point is moot for me, but for so many in the world, arranged marriages are still common.....
