They have the most rabid imbeciles as purchasers, sorry for those who bought one) but to buy a new phone that is similar to the last every 9-10 months is remarkably foolish. Especially since these things aren't cheap even with a contract.

It's very clever though. They sell the same thing year after year with a few modifications and people buy them. The revenue sure adds up...

The problem is, their products are good. If there were more viable competitors with good style (windows phones are still a work in progress and androids have plenty of flaws) Apple would have to settle for less.

Android phones are a much better product without all the extra add on purchases that apple requires.

It depends - androids are better if you don't mind the lack of continuity, you like playing around with phones and customising them, and you like it being open source. I tend to prefer the continuity, stability and design of iOS myself, because appearance matters to me, but everyone's different...
  • nbarton2 Anonymo... 2012/09/17 23:40:06

I've used both and I will take my customization over the standard pack and play of Apple. I'm not sure what you mean by lack of continuity, Apple requires you to use everything from them no deviation

Android phones all have different buttons, and as there is a single one size fits all operating system it can lead to fragmentation issues. Also, the fact that they have menu and back buttons leads to discrepancies - some apps make use of the back button, some use the back button as a home key, some use the monu, others don't, and you don't know which. Also, Androids make everything overly technical - to delete an app on iPhone, you click the cross on the customising page. On the android, you have to go into almost a CMD style layout which can be easily confusing. Like I said, Apple design and standards are much higher, although the lack of flash player is annoying...

Yeah Apple design for the the less tech savvy as well, I'm comfortable with Android and my wife hates my phone, whereas I hate to text on her Iphone because I have a custom keyboard and set up that I'm used to using.

I'm more used to Apple, I have an Android phone but I much prefer my iPod Touch, I can customise all I want on the Android, but I still prefer the sleek efficiency of Apple to the add ons of Android, and in the same way I prefer Chrome to Firefox, too clunky and it can get slow very easily...
  • nbarton2 Anonymo... 2012/09/18 16:47:29

I like customization, put what I want where I want be as minimalistic as necessary. My wife got the iPhone because she was used to the iPod and Chrome is a much better than firefox

I like customisation, if Apple were more open source it would be perfect, but I much prefer the whole Apple system and way of doing things, I use my iPod to go on the internet, listen to music, play games, etc. Customisation is less important than working well and being fast, and Apple wins out in that respect.

True, but hasn't the computer industry always done that? I must have bought at least 15 home computers, PCs, notebooks and tablets in my life. No matter how lightning fast the machine appears to be when you buy it, it only takes a few years until the software becomes more demanding and everything starts to feel rather sluggish. It's the same with smartphones nowadays.

Most other computer companies aren't so integrated - you'd have Microsoft bringing out a new, different operating system out every now and then, and computer manufacturers competing to make the best products, and that's what Android is still doing, which gives lots of variety and you can pick and choose. Apple doesn't do that - you have set phones to choose from, completely controlled, you can't go for a cheaper option or one with a bigger screen, you choose from what's there. So when they bring something new out, it's exciting and everyone wants it because you don't get that sort of variety very often - all of a sudden you can choose between 4:3 and widescreen, whereas you could choose anything from Samsung so the variety isn't as exciting. That's why, despite all Samsung's advertising of the S3, the iPhone 5, with barely any advertising, will far surpass it in sales.

Ha ha ha They'd freak out, and I would love to see it. Sheeple running the streets screaming and pulling their hair out and destroying property. Ha ha ha
