I would go with Big Oil or Big Coal. Without them, iPhones and other gadgets would be paper weights and people would freeze to death and travel would be like the game Oregon Trail. Perhaps Monsanto.

A truly GREAT company would never DREAM of selling a product with a non-replaceable battery. That is far worse than even planned obsolescence, it is planned (and forced) worthlessness. These playthings are disposable toys for yuppies.

It's one of those things that people buy for the brand, not the product. Stick the Apple Inc. logo on the back of a dead mule, and people will rush to buy it.

Computers? *cough* Apple's computer components are exactly the same components that are available in online outlets. Maybe you're thinking of yesteryear, when Apple had the PowerPC monopolized? Or, maybe you're confusing Apple's refusal to support any but their own "branded" components?

As for phones, a lot of 'Droid owners would like to argue that.

Yes

They definitely have the best computer operating system, the best made computers, and the best smartphones. They changed the world with the iPod and iPad. All of their software is also world class. They are certainly on the top of their game. They are not perfect but pretty darn close to it as a company.

I use Apple phones and computers and ipads. Great stuff but best company ever? no. I think about companies like GE and drug and medical equipment companies that make things like xray machines, light bulbs and train locomotives when I think of great companies. Basically the products that Apple makes are non-essentials.

Almost certainly not. Jobs left Apple, Apple suffered. Jobs returned to Apple, Apple prospered. Rinse and repeat - except, Jobs ain't coming back this time.

It's going to be a couple of years before we can say that Apple is "on the rocks", but it's coming.

Ironic, an Apple zombie calling someone a fanboy. Apple's computers rank #4 in reliability, with IBM/Lenovo and Toshiba and Asus in the top 3 places. Those 3 computers run Windows OS. Apples can get viruses, they are way behind when it comes to hardware, and they are the most overpriced POS on the market today. Welcome to reality, enjoy your stay.

is the public finally getting over the Steve Jobs hero thing? Never could figure why Gates was always the bad corporate guy and Jobs the good one, even though in terms of business practices and philanthropy, Gates was an angle compared to Jobs.

Jobs was many different kinds of an ass - but he actually created a few things of his own. Jobs created things that never existed until he pulled them out of his head, or his ass, whichever.

Gates never created a damned thing in his life. He took over other people's creations. The sumbitch is an unethical, dishonest businessman, who got away with thousands of criminal acts. Gates didn't create Windows, Gates didn't create DOS, Gates didn't create squat.

Jobs was ten times the amn that Gates could ever hope to be.

And, being a philanthropist with all the billions he has stolen from the world doesn't make him any better a man.
