Apple starts out overpriced and goes up from there.

Just because YOU had ONE bad experience doesn't mean they're all junk. I was a huge Proponent of windows based PC's since they've existed ( my work with computers goes back to the apple II with the green screens) I recently purchased a Macbook 2008 used off of craigslist, works like a dream. I've never had it so easy, i want to add a printer, i click a plus sign and voila, no need to search for drivers, hope for compatability, yadda yadda, my mac did all the work. The reason you are able to run windows on a Mac is NOT because its a "modified PC operating system"

A operating system IS WINDOWS/MAC OS. Mac's run windows because of the intel class processors and the software known as BOOTCAMP. Something that BILL GATES should do with his own PC's except he probably can't figure out how to do it. This functionality makes my MAC ever more priceless. Instead of toting around 2 laptops, i have the versatility of BOTH major OS's in one small, classy, clean, well functioning package.

    Mac's are overpriced, FACT.
For 1200 I can outperform any Macbook on the market.

In the long term? no you cannot. Windows PC's are plagued with malware/spyware, viruses, trojans, registry errors and the such. No such problems exist on a Mac.

Just like with everything else in life, you get what you pay for!!!

not without spending frikin hours getting upgrading, and replacing parts. what if we want a computer that is functional out of the box, and not have any flaws???? or rediculously less then windows?????
  • U Mad Bro? democoach 2013/01/30 22:49:42
    U Mad Bro?
Lol, it doesn't take hours to replace a part, and windows are fully functional out of the box. Typical Mac owner, I suppose you think it takes hours to replace a part on a computer because you pay an insane amount to have a "certified MAC technician" replace your RAM.

owner suppose replace pay insane certified mac technician replace ram

i have yet to to have my macs brought into apple for any upgrade, when i want to upgrade ram, i will do it myself

i don't want to have to replace parts every month, or year just to keep my comp running.
  • U Mad Bro? democoach 2013/01/31 08:40:47
    U Mad Bro?
No one replaces parts every year just to keep their pc running. It's called upgrading, when a newer better piece of hardware comes out, you buy it and remove the old piece then install the new piece.

Your Mac may well still be working in 10 years, but I highly doubt the hardware and software will work properly with newer programs.

waste of money in my opinion, always have to get the "new" which won't be much better then the last, it really is just for bragging rights.

my mac can be uprgraded if needed, you just believe the stereotype that they can't be

Yep, and mac compatible hardware is years behind in technology than hardware available for Windows/Linux.

Lenovo y570/y580. Priced 800-1200 dollars and more powerful than most mac desktops.

i7 processor(up to 3.4ghz), Nvidia GT 555m or GTX 660 can run battlefield 3, and Crysis 1 and 2 at ultra settings in 720p, up to 1080p. Lets see your 1200 dollar laptop with a 13 inch screen do that.

IBM is a business machine, it better work lol, but it would be impractical for me to have one, lenovo is just as costly as mac.
bought a toshiba years ago, screen pixelated couple days after, and keyboard quit working, i returned it right away.

samsung, well all my phones except for one have been samsung, my current one is the galaxy s2x, it freezes often, otherwise i like the phone.

i had a macbook for 5 years (still works decent), and i now have a macbook pro, also works great, even after a week, lol (i can't say that of pc's ive bought and returned)

heard of asus, and that they are decent,

hp? it should be last, my brother had an hp it lasted bout a year before crashing, (unrepeatable by the repair shop) had an hp desktop, nothing downloaded it crashed and woudl not work one month after purchase. they are truly POS.

dell our university has dell, they are slow as heck and don't work properly.

tried an acer all in one, it too had glitches and it was returned within one week.

i like mac, people who actually use mac like it more because it is the most reliable.

Lenovo actually bought the rights to IBM thinkpad and made a new line called Ideapad which are geared towards multimedia, they cost just as much as macs but have higher marks for reliabiltiy and come standard with more powerful hardware. I payed $800 for my Lenovo Ideapad Y570 refurbished and I have had no issues with it. I honestly wasted my money on a warranty for it. It came standard with face recognizion software, a HDD/SSD combo and Blu-Ray drive. It also has a button that allows me to change fan speed settings. Runs very cool while gaming and one setting blows the dust out of the case so you don't have to clean it.

ssd is a waste of money, mac or pc, who cares about face recognition, (i think mac has it now too, but i could very well be wrong there) sadly mac doesn't a blueray drive, but that isn't an issue for me.

it really comes to preference, mine is mac os, i can't stand windows. the only one i could tolerate was xp, and even after being on mac os for 5 years, i can't get used to windows.

SSD isn't a waste of money. HDD need to spin in order to be able to read data, think of it as analog vs digital. Standard HDD speeds are 5400rpms and 7200rpms. Of course 7200rpms means faster loading and response times but SDD are all digital and don't need to spin up, they're actually 30%-50% faster than 7200rpm HDDs. My laptop can go from shutdown to full boot in under a minute.

waste OF MONEY! 200$ will get you a 2tb HHD, and a 60gb SSD, so how is it NOT a waste of money? sure its faster, but you will eat through memory and will wish you had more fast..

my mac has a HHD and it starts up in 45 seconds or less.

my first mac had an HHD and it started up within 20 seconds, so yeah!

I've got a 500gb HDD which is less than half way to being used up even with over a dozen games installed. I installed the Windows OS in the SSD and my PC never slows down even with all the junk I download.

yeah but how much did your ssd cost? and for how many gb?
  • U Mad Bro? democoach 2013/02/11 18:44:53
    U Mad Bro?
It came with the laptop. 500gb HDD which all of my programs are intalled on, 32gb SDD which my OS and system files are installed on. $800 for the laptop.

Give it a few years, SSD's are new technology and the prices will go down after manufacturing costs become cheaper. Even if you can't afford a SSD you can always buy a hybrid drive which combines HDD and SSD into one HD.

yes years, thats the key years, im not willing to buy the "new" just because its "new"

why should i spend over one thousand dollars or near one thousand for only 500gb of memory?

on;y if i can get the combined for less then 200$ and have more then 500gb of memory, other wise im not wasting my money yet on it. heck i will wait till it costs 100$ for a 1 tb hard drive.

    http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/p...

    HUGE price difference.

i will deal with half a second slower and save myself some cash

Quite a bit faster than a half second.

Plus if you drop a laptop and the HDD gets shaken up, its toast. A SSD will not receive any damage.

Funny how this conversation went from Macs to hard drives, starting to get the feeling you're just the argumentative type... Like most mac owners. =P

lol thats what they ALL say, yet ive dropped my previous macbook several times, (and it WORKED FINE afterwards) ive dropped my ipod classic, probably ten times since ive owned it, and it works FINE! i have yet to see the touch or iphone fall and not break though.

and your the one to bring up ssd, not me,

    in any case, mac is better imo. HHD is still better, mainly because of price vs how much can be stored unto it;
