A operating system IS WINDOWS/MAC OS. Mac's run windows because of the intel class processors and the software known as BOOTCAMP. Something that BILL GATES should do with his own PC's except he probably can't figure out how to do it. This functionality makes my MAC ever more priceless. Instead of toting around 2 laptops, i have the versatility of BOTH major OS's in one small, classy, clean, well functioning package.
For 1200 I can outperform any Macbook on the market.

Just like with everything else in life, you get what you pay for!!!
i don't want to have to replace parts every month, or year just to keep my comp running.
Your Mac may well still be working in 10 years, but I highly doubt the hardware and software will work properly with newer programs.
my mac can be uprgraded if needed, you just believe the stereotype that they can't be
i7 processor(up to 3.4ghz), Nvidia GT 555m or GTX 660 can run battlefield 3, and Crysis 1 and 2 at ultra settings in 720p, up to 1080p. Lets see your 1200 dollar laptop with a 13 inch screen do that.
1. Lenovo/IBM (281)
2. Toshiba (190)
3. Samsung (156)
4. Apple (151)
5. Asus (126)
6. HP/Compaq (100)
7. Dell (68)
8. Sony (64)
9. Acer (40)
bought a toshiba years ago, screen pixelated couple days after, and keyboard quit working, i returned it right away.
samsung, well all my phones except for one have been samsung, my current one is the galaxy s2x, it freezes often, otherwise i like the phone.
i had a macbook for 5 years (still works decent), and i now have a macbook pro, also works great, even after a week, lol (i can't say that of pc's ive bought and returned)
heard of asus, and that they are decent,
hp? it should be last, my brother had an hp it lasted bout a year before crashing, (unrepeatable by the repair shop) had an hp desktop, nothing downloaded it crashed and woudl not work one month after purchase. they are truly POS.
dell our university has dell, they are slow as heck and don't work properly.
tried an acer all in one, it too had glitches and it was returned within one week.
i like mac, people who actually use mac like it more because it is the most reliable.
it really comes to preference, mine is mac os, i can't stand windows. the only one i could tolerate was xp, and even after being on mac os for 5 years, i can't get used to windows.
my mac has a HHD and it starts up in 45 seconds or less.
my first mac had an HHD and it started up within 20 seconds, so yeah!
Give it a few years, SSD's are new technology and the prices will go down after manufacturing costs become cheaper. Even if you can't afford a SSD you can always buy a hybrid drive which combines HDD and SSD into one HD.
why should i spend over one thousand dollars or near one thousand for only 500gb of memory?
on;y if i can get the combined for less then 200$ and have more then 500gb of memory, other wise im not wasting my money yet on it. heck i will wait till it costs 100$ for a 1 tb hard drive.

HUGE price difference.
i will deal with half a second slower and save myself some cash
Plus if you drop a laptop and the HDD gets shaken up, its toast. A SSD will not receive any damage.
Funny how this conversation went from Macs to hard drives, starting to get the feeling you're just the argumentative type... Like most mac owners. =P
and your the one to bring up ssd, not me,
in any case, mac is better imo. HHD is still better, mainly because of price vs how much can be stored unto it;
a mac with an ssd will outdo pc with ssd unless your a gamer of course
