Any tips for giving a speech?

OKAY, my flaws for giving a speech in front of a class: I speak fast (And according to a friend, I sound as if I'm speaking German), I speak softly and often have to repeat myself for people to understand me, I stutter when nervous, I'm nervous in front of a large group of people when they stare at me, I'm obsessive and think everything I say is terrible/not good enough thus leading me to stress and make myself even more nervous.

Picture all the hot people in their bras, panties, whatever XDXD But for real.. just focus on what you are doing and only that. Despite still being shy my last year of high school, I done well on an acting project :D I just focused on it and not the crowd

I took speech in college and it was mandatory. Do you have friends that you can practice your speech on? They can see how you do and time you. Also, having small flash cards with your opening statement, key points, and conclusion on what your speech is about can organize your thoughts better, and make giving a speech easier.

I have the same problem, lol. I just look straight onward. Don't imagine them in their underwear, Imagine them naked.

I know how you feel,i was the same way when i had to stand up in class.I just wanted to blurt out what i had to say and sit right back down.
I still do it now when im the center of attention and it makes me feel uncomfortable.
Practice what you want to say and stand tall when you make your speech....best wishes and GOOO for it!!!

There are many differing techniques (a few that have been offered here) finding the one that works best rather depends on what specifically makes you nervous.

Some people like to have something in their hands, so if you are delivering the speech from memory you might consider having a pen in your hand - people will not notice it is there,

Initially, address the speech to the rear wall or at a friend until you get comfortable enough to scan the room.

If you are comfortable enough with the concept, "own" the space you are presenting from - move around if you want - above all -

Try to make it fun!!!

Drink some tea, follow your written speech or note cards but don't be afraid to improvise, keep eye contact every now and then and be sure to look around the room so that everyone feels included, and be sure that everything is in good order

Having read that and thought about it for a while, my tip is that you should try everything you can think of to get out of doing it. Hope this helps! :-)

Work out your speech and try to memorize it. Read it to yourself first. If you try to memorize it you won't stumble if you miss a word.
