Any one know whats a good laptop for a 14 year old to have? From companies like Dell. Nothing more than $1,000.

Sony Vaio. Much better product than a Dell.

Check Acer first. For "cheap" pc laptops, they're pretty good and they use reliable parts. Acer makes their own as well as other brands like Gateway (Gateways overheat like crazy). Samsung is also an excellent brand. Their parts are also used by a lot of other manufacturers. HP is okay, their hardware is good, but their customer service is awful. Every time I call them, I end up praying for a comet to destroy the earth because they kill my faith in humanity. The big thing to be careful with is overheating. Laptops can do this easily. You want one that has a easily accessible heat sink and fan so you can occasionally dust it with a compressed air can.

Pretty much anything by HP. I mean, come on, you said "Dell" and "Good Laptop" in the same sentence. HP or Acer Laptops will work just fine for you and are usually less expensive for the same quality.

Yeah i know it's just im use to dell becaue i will awlays had dell. And im use to people saying that acer and gateway are cheap companies. But im not getting a new laptop anways i have to just wait until my dell one get's fix.

Gateway actually belongs to Dell, and often has as cheap and low-quality components as Dell does, not to mention poor customer service, which is why I go with HP. Good quality components and actual customer service.

Dell and it is almost 6 years old. Inspiron 6000. Still works good but that was back when they were making a quality product. I paid about a little over $1500.00. I'm not sure I would buy a Dell today. You may want to check out Newegg. They have some ASUS laptops that are getting really good reviews and they are only about $600 - $700. The Dell laptops don't seem to be getting very good reviews... 25% of people purchasing would not recommend them. That seems like a lot of unhappy customers.

Oh im on the dell website and i see a dell new inspiron 17R that i was thinking about getting. because it's small,strong and has a webcamera.

Read the reviews before you make your purchase... just to see what people may be dealing with. Customer service is really important if you end up having any issues.

Oh well i won't be getting a new laptop anymore. I just have to wait until my old dell one gets fix. it should be finsh by next month.

I usually charge $45 to $50 an hour but it really depends on what is wrong with it. Plus I am flexible with the rates. Sometimes it is very simple, other times you have to take everything a part. If it is the hard drive and you need everything loaded back on that can be time consuming and could cost a $200.00... or more.

Well what was the matter with my laptop was it had a broken screen ( because one of my friends broke i believe out of jealous, had some missing keys( because my stupid friend put her puppy on my laptop she thought it would be cute what an idiot, Also it need a new battery because i over chargerd it by an accident, and last it had some scartch on it so it think that would be like a new cover. wow laptops are expensive now in days.

Wow... that is a lot of things. Given what you said I am thinking that repair is going to cost in the neighborhood of $300.00 - $400.00. I don't know what Dell charges for their repairs.

I could see why purchasing a new one is a possibility but if the laptop isn't that old then I always go towards repair. To many people like to just throw stuff away and that is wasteful.

Yes... internet access has a cost every month if you have it at home.

You can get by if you use it at school or the library... but that is not very convenient. If money is an issue then we do what we must. I know people who do that... just use computer at library, school or a friends house.

Yeah that's why i wanted a small laptop . So i could bring it every where with me and the small laptop has wifi. To bad im not getting it. but atleast i will still have my laptop when it gets fix.
