The only really new things in my house are the appliances, and a few reproduction pieces of furniture. I love the comfort of old things, the quality of them. Modern stuff is cold and sterile, to me. It all look like Ikea.

My sister LOVES the whole mid-century modern look, and everything in her house is mid-century mod. When you walk in, it looks like you're back in 1960. But me, I prefer comfort. Mid-century modern is the most uncomfortable furniture in the world.

Why should we have to stick with only one option for interior decorating? Many people nowadays mix modern AND antique furniture and accessories, and it looks interesting and refined. I grew up living in a huge Victorian home, so my tastes run more toward antiques. However, a one-note method of decorating isn't popular anymore. Carefully combined, modern and antique furnishings can co-exist tastefully and beautifully!

I like good design regardless of the era, but I find little of that in the Victorian. I checked the antique box because most of the stuff I have sold on eBay over the past 12 years has been old, collectible, classic or vintage. My personal favorites are the Herman Miller and Eames so-called mid-century furniture.

I like a mix though. In our kitchen we kept the wooden table, old wooden window frames and stone floor but we replaced the rest of the kitchen with shiny, modern stuff. It's surprisingly harmonious. But I still prefer old stuff more.

I don't like 'clinical modern' such as white everything! I like quaint and pastel colours. I also love big grand rooms, with a mix of old and new :)
