Ann Romney's $990 Bird T-Shirt: Stylish or Stupid?

The blog-o-sphere is still chirping about the bird shirt Ann Romney wore on CBS' "This Morning" on Wednesday, and the fact that it was hideously ugly wasn't even the news. Ann Romney's silk shirt costs $990, Styleite reports.

Critics say wearing the shirt -- part of Reed Krakoff’s spring 2012 ready-to-wear collection -- was a particularly foolish move for the first lady hopeful, as she and her multi-millionaire husband struggle to relate to average Americans. Meghan McCain, an MSNBC contributor, slammed the shirt on Lawrence O’Donnell’s "The Last Word."

"She needs to be a little more cognizant of the message she’s trying to put out, just given the economic recession that we're in and everything that's going on," McCain said. And this is just when we'd forgotten that Ann drives a "couple" of Cadillacs. Do you think her pricey bird shirt is stylish -- or stupid?

Not necessarily stupid, but quite an ugly shirt. I can't believe anyone would pay that kind of money for an ugly t-shirt. It is their money, so I guess if they want to flaunt it, they can. Not appropriate for what they are trying to project to the 'regular' folk though.

This is an extremly smart move that the Romney campaign purposely made to get some attention on the potential future first wife. The current first wife constantly makes news for wearing cheaper clothes (nothing wrong with that) and now we have two ladies to compare and contrast. Its petty, but it gets people talking and some women drooling over some fashion gossip. For the way many people vote, this is a smart move. It makes one think "Who would I rather look at and hear about for the next 4 years? Hmmmm"

You know all my life I looked at the Presidents wife as the epitome of style and grace right up to the current one who wants to shop at Target for her clothes. I don't get it at all you either want a woman of class and some substance or you want a cheaply dressed one. To be honest give me the woman of class and substance for the FIRST lady of this country. I don't want little girls to equate shopping at target as the stylesetter for this country. Sure it is a marked difference, but our President is the leader of the foremost country in the world and his wife has to shop in thrift stores? Really is that the message we want to portray to the rest of the world or is that what we want our little girls to aspire to? Jackie Kennedy is spinning in her grave at the indignity of this whole question!!!!!

I think a thousand shirt shows how out of touch they are with the plight of the average american. It's her money,...they have lots of it....and they can spend it any way they like. Just seems to me to be ill advised during a campaign when you are trying to appeal not only to the uber rich, but to the average joe as well.

So much for balance of powers.

It's ugly, but that's okay because she lives in a free country and she's free to have a bad taste. But if she really wants to "relate to average Americans" wearing a $990 t-shirt really isn't the way to show it.

This poll isn't about Michelle, it's about Ann Romney. If it was Michelle trying to be average in a $990 t-shirt I would have answered the same.
