Americans on No-Fly List Allowed to Learn to Fly: Is the TSA Doing Enough to Ensure Safety of Americans?

Americans who aren't able to board commercial planes because of their "no-fly" status are now allowed to enroll in pilot training. According to AJC.com, "The security loophole was raised during a hearing Wednesday to examine the Homeland Security Department's programs to screen foreigners who want to attend flight schools in the U.S. Some of the 9/11 hijackers were able to learn to fly in the U.S. while living in the country illegally."

If an American is not allowed to board a commercial airliner, should they be allowed to learn to fly? More so, is the TSA doing enough to ensure the safety of the American public?

AJC.COM reports:
U.S. citizens who are on the government's list of people banned from flying because they're considered terror threats are not prevented from learning how to fly in schools around the country, according to government regulations.

TSA needs to be ended badly. They are in the news for big scandals two or three times a week. I know, I have a TSA news section embedded in my google news.

In a weird way, that may be a good thing. The more people they inconvenience, the more people will decide they need to go. The flying public just doesn't make up enough people to warrant change, unfortunately. I have learned that it is not so much about how bad an organization is as it is about how many people are affected by it.. :/

That's never been their "charter". The time will come when I will learn to fly both fixed-wing and helicopters, own both, and use private airfields for traveling, which are out of the jurisdiction of the federal corporation and its agencies.

I refuse to contract with them, and am willing to die (and live) for that position. Jurisdiction only takes place with contract.

I voted NO, because the best the TSA could do to ensure the safety of the american people is to disband.

This is all Security Theatre, designed to sell more Chertov X Rated Machines.

Putting babies on the banned list... searching four year old children. Groping elderly grandmothers.

We shouldn't put up with it. We, the American People, should shout "BOGUS !" and shut these perverts down.

If you want to have secure airports, hire the people with the best track record. The Israelis have been doing this for decades by tracking people by their behavior, not their race or religion.

Have them come in and train a brand-new crew of respectful security people.

We've done a lot for the Israelis. Maybe it's time they did something nice in return.

    Call it a Friendship gesture.

The TSA ensure safety? The TSA are one of the biggest risks to the American people and of our (vanishing) freedom. Safety can not and will not be provided by a government, ever.

But the TSA should be eliminated and replaced with nothing. It is a criminal agency and American should not tolerate such treatment. I believe the airports are more than capable of providing their own security

First of all tsa is bs. They are doing all the wrong things purposefully as part of a psy-ops campaign against the american people ala nazi germany. I am a hispanic and my wife a white girl. Whenever we fly (once a year) I am left alone completely while she is ALWAYS subjected to assault and the very dangerous new machine they implemented recently. AND she's pregnant. They leave the arabs alone while they harass the others. Also, how can we trust a security agency that doesn't understand the concept of NO FLY?

Your question is based upon the entirely fictional idea that the TSA was created for, and is in any way capable of or even interested in ensuring the "safety of Americans."

The only way the criminal organization commonly referred to as the TSA could help to insure the safety of Americans is to disband in it's entirety, and have all employees register as sex offenders and face charges of Treason.

Performed very well? Violating the 4th amendment, the 10th amendment, and committing sexual assault while impersonating officers? These are not sworn officers, and if the police or Feds attempted to do what these guys do, they would be charged with sexual assault and civil rights violations They have not caught or stopped a single terrorist, have thousands of complaints of stolen items from peoples personal baggage, hire people specifically with criminal records, lie repeatedly about their procedures and hide evaluation reports on the safety of their equipment while refusing private oversight and testing.

I disagree. They put babies on the no fly list. I mean, babies can be born to be terrorists? Or take someone's crutches (who has a sprained leg) making them brake their legs. The TSA is a joke.

Oh, lets not forget the couple instances where TSA agents ran around screaming "I AM GOD, I HAVE POWER" (Not just one, a couple different ones). Or how about the couple instances women were forced to drink their own breast milk from their babies bottle? How about the elderly woman who was forced to remove her dirty diaper for them? Or how about the beauty queen who was literally finger banged by an agent? How about the agents who have been out on the streets forcing children and women to stop and be fondled, and they comply thinking it is the law? (Hence, this is one of the reason dozens are pediaricians and psychologists warning that this is training children to accept people violating their bodies and increasing instances of rape). How about the fact that is was admitted in Congressional testimony by the Undersecretary of National Security that the alleged "underwear bomber" was excorted on the plane by US intelligence agents in order to create the fear that would get the body scanners, which were created by a company the head of the TSA worked for, in the airports? Are you aware that the FBIs own definition of rape concludes that the TSA are serial rapists?

I find this one hard to answer when I've read various articles on why some people have been put on the 'no fly' list. Some are ludicrous. Take the kid in Scotland who wrote a drunk letter to the current admin. Didn't threaten him just said he was a douche. I think that the 'no fly' needs to be revised and looked at first before we start expanding on it. The current rules don't work.

I agree. Many of the people on the no-fly lists are put there by mistake or punitively in retaliation for something they said or did.
