No this isnt a Democrat/Republican/liberal/right wing/blah blah blah bitchfest. Just something I've been pondering lately. I've been talking to some imigrants lately and it's really made me think of the word 'freedom'. To me it seems that we have freedom as long as the goverment makes it money. No matter what it is. Yes I have the freedom to go buy a pack of smokes. As long as uncle Sam can tax the hell out of me. Sin Tax? I guess I'm a sinner for smoking. At least thats what uncle sam is telling me. Now they want to put a sin tax on Soda. Great now my kids a sinner. May we all burn.
I guess I'll just say this openly. If someone were to ask me what it meant to be a american I would have to say to be a american you need to buy as much shit as possible and if you cant afford it, charge it. Its all about out doing eachother. Thats what it comes down to. Example. A freind and I recently brought a boat. The Idea of fishing from a boat interested me. He lives in a apartment and would have no place to put one. I have plenty of storage area(Due to the lack of shit. But Im working on it). Anyways we invested a few hundred in a 14 ft boat with trailer. My friend had a 10h.p motor for it. I paid for the registration. All needs were met. It floats. Well telling a few work zombies about it. They got into a 'Who's dick is bigger' pissing contest about their boats. Damn If I was a real American I would of gotten a bigger one.
Moving on. So I have freedom of speech. Well to a point. I cant go into a police station screaming 'I'm going to kill all you cops!'. Well I can. But not without repercutions. Freedom kinda just lost the 'free' again. Hell even just writing this blog is costing me in internet fees.
Now I'm going to go as far as to say I think the recession is good for us. For a short period that is. Making us give up on competing for 'Customer of the year award'. Oh wait Uncle Sam is coming to the rescue. Bailout. Good now they got their hand further in the apple pie. Yet the people, including me, complaining about the recession dont buy american products, Then they wonder why the jobs are going away. Well if you wont even buy your own shit..................
So yes I'm american. I've been commercialized. But not by choice.
