American Apparel, known for its provocative hipster ad campaigns, recently released a new advertisement featuring an "advanced" model... spreading her legs. They've garnered a lot of positive feedback from the media for being equal opportunity, but is this just another controversial marketing ploy?

American Apparel is a classless company run by a sexist pervert who creeps on his young and beautiful models. Basically he uses the lewd ads as an excuse to proposition young women for sex- they are coerced into it. I refuse to purchase anything from this horrible company. Also, the stores refuse to hire employees (even those who work in the backroom of the store!) who don't meet certain physical specifications. Purchasing from thrift stores and local independent boutiques is smarter than shopping at this overpriced sleazefest.

I don't care what tactics this company uses- it is still disgusting to me, therefore I refuse to patronize it.

    [...]

The ad would be fine if her sweater were covering most of her crotch, otherwise it echoes the rest of the company's tasteless advertisements.

I really don't get the issue at hand. She's spreading her legs. A lot of people sit like that when they're not in a chair, so who's to say that's not the reason behind the pose? Where's the "who cares?" option?

I actually wouldn't have noticed her legs had it not been pointed out first.

If they wanted an older woman spreading her legs while wearing nylon tights for their ad why didn't they just ask Madonna?

I've never seen what kind of clothes they sell since the models are always nude. I wouldn't give one cent to this kind of company for its abuse of females

It's always about the money. Always.
Who has the most disposable income these days? People her age, the rich or the wealthy (remember the rich have a lot of money, the wealthy sign their checks.)

I think they will do anything to sell anything. It is always about the money. Most things do seem to be that way, politics, businesses, etc.

However they could have found a model who was better looking. Is the model male, female or a trannie?

Poorly done marketing ploy, and a rip-off of the old "Flashdance" poster.

I had to look up the "Flashdance" Poster. Though the art work in the poster is showing its age (the garish red high heels, semi-mullet piled high hair, and granny living room decor) her pose is much classier, even the ripped sweat top is classier than granny giving a peep show.

Both. The Boomers are aging. If American Apparel wants their money, they need to advertise to them. Just because they're getting older, doesn't mean they've lost their interest in sexuality.

We're all aging. Get over it.

I think it is great they chose a little older woman, older woman like to dress with the current style. Not all woman over fifty want to wear mommy jeans or cheap double knit pants. While I would have not of chosen this particular outfit, it is a matter of taste, but it is better than a Baggie t-shirt with large flowers all over it or pants with an elastic waist band.
