June is LGBT Pride Month, making it the perfect time for American Apparel to debut its first transgender model, former "America’s Next Top Model" contestant Isis King. King, 26, appears in a series of new ads for the provocative clothing chain, wearing Pride Month T-shirts.

"American Apparel is showing bold leadership by being among just a few companies to include transgender people in its national ads," GLAAD President Herndon Graddick said in a statement. "The company’s statement that 'Gay is OK' will reach millions and send an important message in support of equality." King, 26, was the first transgender contestant on "Top Model," too. Do you think American Apparel is making a bold move toward equality by using her in their ads? Or is it just a gimmicky way to get attention?

geez people, when is society gonna grow up. why should anyone care about another persons preference? media has freely exposed sex, drugs, violence, and much much more and noone seems to have a problem with it, why all the fuss over gay? i personal dont enjoy being with someone of the same sex, but if someone else does, how is that even any of my business? i really dont see the big deal.........

Don't really know. I do know I had a friend ( I went out with his sister for a couple of weeks) in high school that "turned gay". He asked me out. I said no with a few other words attached. So you tell me did I have a choice to say yes or no?

let me make it clear, Did you choose to be attracted to a female (sexually)? im guessing you didnt

Its not a choice, why would you or any one want to choose a life that is looked down upon, bullied, harassed, tormented, etc? And if it was a choice why not just stop being gay??????

Why do people kill hundreds of people. Why do people drink until the pass out throw up and pee their pants. Why do people torment cats.

I don't know why people do stupid things. They do though.

So my oldest daughters best friend now has a gay father that divorced her mother after 15-20 years. So why was he married for 20 years fathering kids and then states he is gay.

I don't know why and neither do you.

No I'm not, your just twisting my words. Obviously I'm going to bring it up if we are talking about gays. Are we talking about alcoholics on this forum? No, are we talking about people who torment animals? No. Stay on the topic please :)

Btw you do know because it came to you naturally to like women. I never questioned myself if I liked men, I just like men. I'm sure it was the same for you with women. You didn't choose to like breasts, curves, her eyes, etc it is what turns you on and you don't question it unless your 11 wondering "what is going on, why do I feel like this?"

I thought I was on topic. I was making a comparison. I was stating that no one knows why a person is one way or the other. It is a choice. It is always a choice. Whether being gay straight or one of the other issues you don't want me to bring up.

If I wanted another man, I could make a choice and go to a gay bar and pick one up. I don't. Why? because it is not right. My comparison I believe is valid and on topic.

Ok so tell me this, if Women were meant to have children and the reason being gay is wrong is because two men or two women can't reproduce then why did God make some women infertile? That would cancel out your entire argument. "A man and a man can't do that (reproduce)" neither can some straight women. So that argument is complete bs

Okay, I am not going to go through the whole explanation with you about why people become transgendered. I'm too tired. It's complicated though and she was not exactly born a man. She was also born a woman.

don't get your panties in a bunch, people are always gonna say "was a man" and yes that is untrue from the standpoint we were never really men no. BUT we were living as men, so saying was a man, i feel is valid... but thats just my opinion or something

Basically, there is a point in promoting equality. Some people who didn't care before might be persuaded to care from seeing things such as this. But you're right; some people who didn't care before will never care. You've got to remember that others may change their mind, though. It doesn't hurt anything to at least try to promote equality.
