June is LGBT Pride Month, making it the perfect time for American Apparel to debut its first transgender model, former "America’s Next Top Model" contestant Isis King. King, 26, appears in a series of new ads for the provocative clothing chain, wearing Pride Month T-shirts.

"American Apparel is showing bold leadership by being among just a few companies to include transgender people in its national ads," GLAAD President Herndon Graddick said in a statement. "The company’s statement that 'Gay is OK' will reach millions and send an important message in support of equality." King, 26, was the first transgender contestant on "Top Model," too. Do you think American Apparel is making a bold move toward equality by using her in their ads? Or is it just a gimmicky way to get attention?

geez people, when is society gonna grow up. why should anyone care about another persons preference? media has freely exposed sex, drugs, violence, and much much more and noone seems to have a problem with it, why all the fuss over gay? i personal dont enjoy being with someone of the same sex, but if someone else does, how is that even any of my business? i really dont see the big deal.........

"It's not like one day a married man wakes up one morning, goes out to find a gay prostitute to get a blow job, goes back home and tells his wife "I made a choice" No it is like that 40+ year old man that one day goes to his wife who popped out 4 of his kids and says. Sorry honey I am gay meet Jim.

3 of his kids want nothing to do with him. 14 years old and have to deal with fact that your dad is queer.

Pathetic excuse for a man.. gay or not.

    Yeah right.
  • Grrr smitty 2012/06/18 21:16:02
you said it was choice, im giving an example if it was. You do not choose who you like. may i ask, did you choose to be straight?
  • smitty Grrr 2012/06/18 21:30:00 (edited)
Don't really know. I do know I had a friend ( I went out with his sister for a couple of weeks) in high school that "turned gay". He asked me out. I said no with a few other words attached. So you tell me did I have a choice to say yes or no?
  • Grrr smitty 2012/06/18 22:08:59 (edited)
That is completely different than what i am asking.
let me make it clear, Did you choose to be attracted to a female (sexually)? im guessing you didnt

Its not a choice, why would you or any one want to choose a life that is looked down upon, bullied, harassed, tormented, etc? And if it was a choice why not just stop being gay??????
  • smitty Grrr 2012/06/19 13:38:44 (edited)
So now you are making it seem only gay are as you put it "looked down upon, bullied, harassed, tormented, etc?".

Why do people kill hundreds of people. Why do people drink until the pass out throw up and pee their pants. Why do people torment cats.

I don't know why people do stupid things. They do though.

So my oldest daughters best friend now has a gay father that divorced her mother after 15-20 years. So why was he married for 20 years fathering kids and then states he is gay.

I don't know why and neither do you.
  • Grrr smitty 2012/06/19 15:11:14 (edited)
No I'm not, your just twisting my words. Obviously I'm going to bring it up if we are talking about gays. Are we talking about alcoholics on this forum? No, are we talking about people who torment animals? No. Stay on the topic please :)

Btw you do know because it came to you naturally to like women. I never questioned myself if I liked men, I just like men. I'm sure it was the same for you with women. You didn't choose to like breasts, curves, her eyes, etc it is what turns you on and you don't question it unless your 11 wondering "what is going on, why do I feel like this?"
  • smitty Grrr 2012/06/19 15:42:31 (edited)
"you don't question it unless your 11 wondering "what is going on, why do I feel like this?"" I can't remember what I was thinking when I was eleven. Now this may sound simplistic but I hated pizza when I was a kid. I absolutely despised it. I love it now.

I thought I was on topic. I was making a comparison. I was stating that no one knows why a person is one way or the other. It is a choice. It is always a choice. Whether being gay straight or one of the other issues you don't want me to bring up.

If I wanted another man, I could make a choice and go to a gay bar and pick one up. I don't. Why? because it is not right. My comparison I believe is valid and on topic.
  • Grrr smitty 2012/06/19 20:29:28
That's a choice, but getting turned on by one isn't

There is no truth or validity to his statement.
  • dv Howard 2012/06/15 21:53:40
No one chooses that lifestyle people are different they have a right to live how they want they are still human
  • Godsgir... dv 2012/06/16 02:07:41
Yes u choose ur lifestyle. God ment for many women to be able to have children a man and a man can't do that and a 1 man woman can't do that to you you made a choice
  • AngelaDuke Godsgir... 2012/06/16 06:37:57
Ok so tell me this, if Women were meant to have children and the reason being gay is wrong is because two men or two women can't reproduce then why did God make some women infertile? That would cancel out your entire argument. "A man and a man can't do that (reproduce)" neither can some straight women. So that argument is complete bs
  • Aly Hart Godsgir... 2012/06/17 11:38:37
    Aly Hart
Then why are there sterile men and infertile women? Surrogates? In-vitro fertilization? I mean, if you're going to use a fictional character to back things up, at least bring them up
  • smitty Aly Hart 2012/06/18 20:01:24
Medical science. Without that marvel he is correct.

    Sometimes nature can be indecisive.
  • smitty genetic... 2012/06/18 14:46:22
The hands of a good surgeon and makeup artist can help. It ain't nature.

We are in all professions, in all walks of life, in all states. As a transsexual trial lawyer, I am happy to see more publicity given to transgender people.
  • 1wickedwitch 2012/06/15 19:15:50
    why not..

    very good, awesome!
  • HannahFitz 2012/06/15 19:14:15 (edited)
awesome, though i would have never have thought that was a man.
  • Shawna HannahFitz 2012/06/15 20:01:22
She's not a man. She was born with a penis. That's not quite the same thing.
  • HannahFitz Shawna 2012/06/15 20:13:10 (edited)
nope, she was born a man, googled it! :)
  • Shawna HannahFitz 2012/06/15 20:22:05
Okay, I am not going to go through the whole explanation with you about why people become transgendered. I'm too tired. It's complicated though and she was not exactly born a man. She was also born a woman.
  • HannahFitz Shawna 2012/06/15 20:31:38
yes, i understand hormonally and emotionally inside she feels like a woman, but i was just commenting on the physical appearance of what she used to look like as a 'man' is a vast difference from the woman she looks like now, please don't patronise me.
  • Shawna HannahFitz 2012/06/15 20:33:04
I do not mean to patronise you. There are a lot of ignorant people here and I run across them constantly. I am sorry if it came across that way.
  • rylie_love Shawna 2012/06/15 22:26:39
don't get your panties in a bunch, people are always gonna say "was a man" and yes that is untrue from the standpoint we were never really men no. BUT we were living as men, so saying was a man, i feel is valid... but thats just my opinion or something
  • smitty Shawna 2012/06/15 20:47:27
Only when someone changes the definition of it to suit their ideals.
  • chrissy 2012/06/15 18:57:13
I think its a great topic to be concerned about because people are still getting treated poorly for their sexuality and its just wrong and not right
  • retrograve 2012/06/15 18:53:54 (edited)
I remember Isis from America Top Model. Good to see she's getting work..
But on another note those pants...are ugly....

  • HarleyCharley 2012/06/15 18:52:57
    whats the big deal..
  • Batwoman HarleyC... 2012/06/15 19:00:42
It really shouldn't be a big deal, but we have to make it a big deal in order to promote equality.
  • Fxckiin... Batwoman 2012/06/15 19:42:20
    Fxckiin Brii
The people who don't care about equality will continue on not caring about equality and those who do care, will still care, but some may not even care any more than they already do.(Me)
  • Batwoman Fxckiin... 2012/06/19 15:02:07
Just wait until people start trying to take away your rights, and then maybe you'll care.

    Who said I didn't care ?
