June is LGBT Pride Month, making it the perfect time for American Apparel to debut its first transgender model, former "America’s Next Top Model" contestant Isis King. King, 26, appears in a series of new ads for the provocative clothing chain, wearing Pride Month T-shirts.

"American Apparel is showing bold leadership by being among just a few companies to include transgender people in its national ads," GLAAD President Herndon Graddick said in a statement. "The company’s statement that 'Gay is OK' will reach millions and send an important message in support of equality." King, 26, was the first transgender contestant on "Top Model," too. Do you think American Apparel is making a bold move toward equality by using her in their ads? Or is it just a gimmicky way to get attention?

Nilam 2012/06/15 22:03:12Great+36geez people, when is society gonna grow up. why should anyone care about another persons preference? media has freely exposed sex, drugs, violence, and much much more and noone seems to have a problem with it, why all the fuss over gay? i personal dont enjoy being with someone of the same sex, but if someone else does, how is that even any of my business? i really dont see the big deal.........

Have a good one.
" Legalize Gay " ... " Gay O.K. " .... that's not dwelling on the issue ?
I'm so damned sick of hearing it I could puke.
I was not talking about sexuality -- which is right freaking there. I was bringing up the sex I didn't see/get.
Now, if it was a legit ' She ', I might be able to get upset with " the sex I didn't see/get " < s >
Get back to me after you graduate kindergarten
Don't mess with me, In Love with Liberty said I'm a Bad A--.
LOL!!!
LOL!
Ok... See Ya Later...
Also, I hate those pants.
I'm just saying...
Wish i was as confident...
this is a Company with ..
Accounting Problems (where oh where to categorize its revolving credit accounts in the tax/earnings statements)
very REAL Probability of hitting Bankruptcy and going totally out of business ..
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4...
http://www.accessoriesmagazin...
sexually explicit advertising .. (niche .. for the controversy only)
http://www.guardian.co.uk/com...
CEO under suspicion for Sexual Misconduct
http://www.huffingtonpost.com...
(although the one lawsuit was tossed by Manhattan Courts .. there's still the problem with this HISTORY of potential misconduct issues)
rumors that it will NOT have 'Made in America' products much longer
http://jezebel.com/americanap...
Obviously .. they've spent a FORTUNE on ADVERTISING services ..
this is a last GASP to try to find a NICHE ..
(another big name also trying this NICHE Strategy is JC Penny)
We are most likely seeing only controversy to try to stave off temporarily the death throes of the corporation at this time ..
