I tend to waste time when I have large breaks. I enjoy working and earning money. I'm also a full-time student during the year, therefore I have far too many breaks. When I have breaks I hurry to find a job to work at. I don't vacation in Europe unlike many of my classmates. I enjoy vacation time, but too much free-time irritates me.

if you are a fan of the acorn liberals, you will never get a vacation, as they push for more welfare, and stifle the free market. so enjoy the extra 2 bucks in food stamps, you have hit your peak. market enjoy extra 2 bucks food stamps hit peak welfare

“The problem of the twentieth century is the problem of the color line,” W.E.B. Du Bois wrote in 1903 — and I will not quibble. But the problem of the 21st century is the problem of culture, not just the infamous “culture of poverty” but what I would call the culture of smugness. The emblem of this culture is the term “American exceptionalism.” It has been adopted by the right to mean that America, alone among the nations, is beloved of God. Maybe so, but on some days it’s hard to tell.

Interesting article, read the rest here......

Americans are duped and brainwashed into believing that despite our inferior education, health-care, retirement benefits, low salaries, and crumbling infrastructure that we are the "best" country in the world. With this attitude I'm shocked employers offer any vacation time at all. Oops, did I give corporate America a new idea?

Yep, the antidote for American exceptionalism would be a passport. Unfortunately most of the brainwashed can't afford to leave to see for themselves. It must be all framed for them by Fox News.

I'm a very very lucky and rare exception. But in general, no, I don't think Americans get enough time off. I'm sure there isn't one single family in America that wouldn't benefit from having 6 weeks of paid vacation time off to spend with one another.

I get about 5 weeks paid vacation a year, I never use it all. I take a couple days off during spring break. a week in the summer, and a couple weeks in the fall for deer hunting. Sometimes I'll take a couple days off during Christmas. Vacation costs a lot of money. When an employee is gone, they have to pay someone else to do that persons job. They're paying double to get one job done.

As one of the self-emplored I'd feel guilty. Plus I wouldn't know what to do with myself when I climbed from the strange worlds in my head to focus solely on a tropical drink and the ocean lapping at my feet. As for rest of America ... YES, ROCK ON! The more vacations make an overall better country.

I get too much time off, and as a result I'm unable to support myself; this despite the fact that I am at least willing to work below the minimum wage, unlike the idiots supporting amnesty.

you look at all the other industrialized nations, they have more time off, they have healthcare, they have parental leave, they have a shorter work week, if the republicans wish to convince the American Worker they have it so well, they have to keep the truth from them.

If you vote no, then get a clue. The Republicans do not believe in healthcare for workers, or time off for workers, or time off for family. But that seems so fundamental.

By the likes of this Board not so fundamental. Remember you cant' overestimate the stupidity of the American public. Nope, can't be done no matter how hard you try.

  • S* dave b 2011/05/24 15:11:52

Gee, they do not want healthcare for anyone, dave, where have you been? If you want links to the Republicans trying to do away with Medicare, Social Security, Healthcare, and collective bargaining for any benefits, where you like to start with links, dave.

I have had almost two years off because of Obama and his policies.
It's time he works on the private sector and jobs.

Typical Obama worshiper. Deny that he is destroying the economy. Deny that he is a traitor to this country. Deny that he is an incompetent boob incapable of doing anything but spend and tax and tell us that we are a bad country.
I have worked for 40 years, working my butt off trying to support myself and family.
There are NO MORE JOBS in the private sector for men my age and in the field I know.
You have proven to me that you are a blind fool and the best you can do is call me names.

I laugh in your face. I laugh at your inept attempt to put me down because I see NOTHING in Obama that is good for our country. NOTHING.

By the way, I STILL waiting for the jobs he has promised.

typical hater. The economy was not his doing, so spare me. Sucks to be you, you should not have voted for GW. That is your undoing, not Obama. I have little sympathy if you have no job and you cannot see the truth, you can laugh in my face, but you are the the one out of work, unless that is a lie too.

BTW, I am still waiting for the republicans to take responsibility for the economy, but of course, they will not. Grow a garden, big fella, hopefully your are happy about not having healthcare either. Spare me your hate.

Clinton is the one who signed the bill to MAKE the banks give mortgages to those who could NOT afford a home. It was the Republicans that tried to WARN of the banking disaster to come. But of course, those facts mean NOTHING to an Obama worshiper.

like the Gramm Leach bill that deregulated the banks after repealing Glass Steagall Act.,

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...

and now you are blaming Clinton and not a word about how two unbudgeted wars drained us, deregulated the banks, too big to fail, they said, and Gramm called the Americans a bunch of whiners, then he quit and took a VP job with one of the big banks that were dereged by his legislation. Yeah, the Republicans are on your side, oh yeah. LOL. Keep laughing, chuckles.
