E-commerce giant Amazon.com, is investing tons of money (like, hundreds of millions of dollars) into opening massive shipping centers close to major metropolitan hubs. In California alone, "Amazon will spend $500 million and hire 10,000 people at its new California warehouses."
Why is Amazon doing this, you ask? Because Amazon’s new goal is to get stuff to you immediately -- as soon as a few hours after you hit "buy." This will undoubtedly shake-up the retail industry, if not damage it severely. There have been online companies in the past that have attempted to offer same-day delivery, but quickly failed.

Amazon has long enjoyed an unbeatable price advantage over its physical rivals. When I buy a $1,000 laptop from Wal-Mart, the company is required to collect local sales tax from me, so I pay almost $1,100 at checkout. In most states, Amazon is exempt from that rule.

It becomes annoyingly difficult when trying to return an online item.
Besides, 2 day and next day shipping are already pricy. Depending on what you are buying, you can pay double or more the price of the item in the expedited shipping. Is this going to be even worse?
Other Companies will either pick up on the new methods or technology or be left in the dust. The winner is the consumer
please.
I love Walmart and i told Corporate Offices that if they ever go Union I would never shop with them again but would buy on-line.
When I was in Retail, I worked both sides Union and Management and I HATE UNIONS
But dang! It may be cheaper than sales tax!
Remember hearing about people paying like 10 bucks extra for next day delivery and them not getting it for a week. Just suck it up and wait instead of wasting your money.
I guess the question is how much difference will faster shipping make to sales? Will they make enough extra sales to justify the extra cost?
Unless the cost relates to savings (Sales Tax), it won't destroy local shopping.
As moves to regulate the net and track people using it grow, it might even backfire.
Plus I get next minute delivery on my kindle.
