Amanda Brumfield Charged With Child Neglect: Is Thorton's daughter guilty?

Amanda Brumfield, Billy Bob Thorton's oldest daughter, is being charged with child neglect of a 1-year-old child she was babysitting. Blumfield was babysitting for a neighbor when the child fell from her playpen. The child showed no signs of distress or injury, so Brumfield didn't call 911. However, hours later, Amanda discovered the baby's body was limp; she was dead. The 1 yr old died from a subdural hematoma (brain bleeding and a fractured skull) from the fall-- an incident much like that of Natasha Richardson's death.

Amanda Brumfield's story about how they ate bananas and painted the little girls nails... when the autopsy shows that the severe blow to the head would have left the child crying for hours, and NOT eating bananas with a bloody biten tounge. The story doesn't add up, and Brumfield had hours to make up a story before her husband got home. Even the 911 call... she didn't seem frantic at all. I would have been an emotional wreck, and not clam and collected as she sounded in the backround. The sketchy text saying how she wanted the little girl to stay a few more days was her way of trying to buy herself time. Kids scream if they get pinched. Lets be honest here. A fractured skull and brain damage... that child would have not been acting even the slightest bit "normal" as she claims.

My daughter is nine months old - Now I know why I don't trust any body to watch her!!!

Even if the baby "fell" out of the playpen -She should of called someone! the baby's family at least!- Did she even do that??? No why? because Amanda Brumfield is a liar.

i mean dont get me wrong , its heart breaking to here any child has died. but parents no dat for every fall your not going to call 911 ! if the child wasnt showing any sign of really being hurt then i dont see the reason for calling 911!

if you were to call 911 for every little bump and bruise you would always be on the phone. for all she knew, nothing was wrong. it was an accident. hands down not guilty.

No way-come on. If my mother called 911 or took me to the doctors every time I fell, I'd probably still be in the waiting room. It's unfortunate that a child has died and it's really unfortunate that our society has gotten to the point where someone has to be blamed and sued every time something happens. If this lady was watching diligently, could the baby still have fallen? If the answer is yes, it seems the baby is who is really at fault, right.

duh!! If a child falls and can't answer for themselves especially and the added fact that she wasn't hers the right thing to do would have been to a call 911 and then call the parents and tell them that she was going to the ER or at least call the childs doctor...when a child falls and it can't tell you if it is hurt it is Always hard to tell and you should have them checked out!

If you call 911 every time a baby falls you would spend half your life going to the hospital and the other half coming back. Due diligence would call for checking the kid out. No distress. No injury. I assume she kept a close eye on her for a short time afterwords without seeing any problems. There is no guarantees in life. I feel for the parents, the baby and yes for Amanda. The facts are things happen but based on what was reported above there was no neglect.

While accidents do happen, you have to take precautions with kids! Most falls are nothing, but you don't let them go to sleep after a head trauma, no matter how uneventful it may seem!

That's a heads up reason to call 911 next tme that happens. But I think that alot of people would have done the same thing because children are falling down all the time and usually they are alright. Maybe I'm off on this one. Everyone else is saying she should have taken her to the emergency. I don't have any kids so I'm no expert.

She was in charge of the child and should have gotten her to the ER,or someplace that could have checked the child out.What was she doing that kept her from checking on the child.

i don't care if you're related to the Queen, better to be safe then sorry, she should have been paying attention at all times. I have 2 kids and if you're not paying attention they can get into real trouble. It only takes a second. Very irresponsible of her.

The reason why I say "Yes" is that was not her child so she should have call 911 because first she is not doctor the child was only one (1) she wouldn't really cry out that much and if she put the child to rest right after the fall that such a bad idea.
Once you are babysitting you are responsible for the well being of the baby and if the baby fell and it seemed to be bad fall call 911 right away or take the baby to the nearest hospital to be checked out.

if you are going to babysit then be prepared for everything. there is no harm in dialing 911 after a baby falls.

Yes with babies you have to be very careful, always, when they fall do not let them sleep for atleast 15 minutes after a fall , what was she doing when the baby was climbing out the playpen were she paying attention to the baby

I have to wonder if she wasn't on the phone and not paying attention to the baby. A lot of things happen when the babysitter or the mom are not paying full attention to the baby.

When I was very young and my twin sister and I were put to "rest" and in between our beds there was a table because we really didn't get along very well my sister was reaching for me to hit me and moved backward and she fell of her bed and hit the corner of the table and broke her colar bone so I know first hand how fast things can happen with babies and that is a fact.
