Alright! I seriously need help with my T-Mobile G1 Android! SERIOUSLY! No joking around. :(

Okay. So my phone has been working completely fine the past few weeks... My friend gave it to me since she wasnt using tmobile anymore. I enjoyed it very much because my last phone was more old than this phone and just in terrible shape.
Today I woke up and the phone was fine. I talked on the phone to two different friends today and everything seemed normal.
Then suddenly, i noticed my touchscreen stopped working. I had to use only the little scroll on the phone because of this and believe it or not, not having the touch working made using the phone a lot harder. Soon thereafter, i noticed OTHER problems the phone had.
If i tried to go to the contacts screen or dial pad or even try to make an outgoing call normally or with voice dial, it wouldnt go thru and would give me "the process android.process.acore has stopped unespectedly. please try again." it did the same thing if i tried to send out a text to a new contact. it gave me that message. and the only option to get out of the message is "fore close".
I can still receive texts and reply fine but not type by touch. i have to use the keyboard no matter what. i cant receive calls properly... my phone will ring but wont tell me who is calling or let me answer. when i try answering it gives me the message and tells me to fore close.
i tried to "Soft reset" my phone to see if that would help, it didnt. i tried turning it off then on. i tried taking out the battery for a while and putting it back in. i tried just keeping it off for a while. didnt work. i wanna HARD RESET it but if it goes to the screen that tells me to touch it to begin using my phone, it wont work considering my touch isnt working so i will be forever stuck OUTSIDE of my using my phone like normal.
OH! And what does the purple status light at the top of the G1 android mean? I have never seen that before until today.
