AllRecipes.com for Thanksgiving Dinner - Do you Make Thanksgiving Recipes from Scratch?

I Actually do make my Thanksgiving from scratch -- everything from Stuffing to the dessert. This is the way I did it (even as a SINGLE PARENT with my children in the home). I would stay up very late -- get all the prep work done, and then wake up the next morning BEFORE Dawn to continue with the prep. I would have pumpkin pie, turkey, stuffing, veggies, breads, etc.

duh what's the point if it is not home made?

It is so much better than the from a box. but you have to have the time and not rush a meal if you do it from scratch.....

Thanksgiving is a day that I bring out Grandma's recipes and make an old fashioned Thanksgiving dinner. This year my children have asked for me to wait until they are out of school the day before so we can do the entire dinner together. My daughter has been helping for years but now my two boys want to start helping. It is a way for our family to bond as we all build the dinner together. It is also my way of passing down the recipes from our family.

I start cooking on Wednesday, today is the day. I will make my pecan pies from scratch, even down to the family recipe for pie crust. I will make a special jell-o recipe given to us a long time ago, it is orange to match the fall/harvest theme.
I will make an apple pie, from scratch. Start brining my fresh turkey today. I will bake my sweet potatoes, and assemble my casserole. Tomorrow I will bake it.

Tomorrow, I will make the homemade stuffing (again a family recipe) to stuff the turkey. I buy real potatoes to make my mashed potatoes, no instant for the holiday. It is not about quick but homemade and getting the best taste I can get.
I will make the green bean casserole, I found this is better assembled and cooked on the big day.

I do buy my cranberry sauce pre-made. I really like the taste of the Ocean spray jellied cranberry sauce. I may try a couple of recipes to find something I like by Christmas.
My daughter is bringing 2 pumpkin pies, deviled eggs, and the rolls. It will be semi-homemade. She probably will buy the store bought crust and the rolls will be homemade from a local filipino bakery (oh so good!!!).

Yes, I make everything from scratch from my mother and grandmother's recipes.

I do make some things from scratch like the pies and salads but the dressing never turns out right for me so I always buy that in a box.
