No "other" opinion?? ........... all deaths result in sorrow, however, they should be viewed and accepted as a normal event of life ... e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g dies ... the only 'question' is when and how.

well at the moment sibling because i do not have children, and don't plan on having any until i am old enough. However i can already imagine that it is the hardest to deal with.

I think a child's loss is the worst, they did not get to experience so many good things in life and to see them suffer is tough.

it was the closest. i dont plan on having children and ive already come to terms with the fact that my parents are gonna die someday, but my best friend is practically a sister to me and id rather die before going to her funeral

Already happened, so maybe I should have listed one of the others, but I'm superstitious.

Mostly I think the worst thing for any parent would be the death of a child. I've heard that MANY marriages don't survive that, despite there being other children.

But I would remember that death is a transitional state. Even though my child may not be physically with me, I know he would be near me in spirit. And that in itself is still a blessing.

I'm going to have to answer with this because I understand that I will likely live to see my parents' deaths. Spouses and siblings are closer in age, so it would be difficult but, again, I know it's probable. But parents are not supposed to outlive their children.

I don't have one yet, nor do I really plan to with the way people are breeding like bunnies on this planet, but I think that would be unbearable.

No question, the death of a child. I saw first hand what my brother's death did to my parents.

I have lost my father and my wife. I have lost sibiings-in-law but not a natural brother or sister. I have in-laws who have lost biological children. And I think the original order, parent, sibling, spouse, child gets it just about right. It isn't easy to lose a parent but we expect the day to come eventually. Losing a brother or a sister is harder but those from large families know that most of us will lose at least one brother or sister before leaving ourselves. As for spouse, we know almost half of us will outlive our spouse....but losing a child; that isn't supposed to happen and when it does there is just no way to be prepared.

I lost my second wife to a heart attack while trying to get her out of bed and into a chair. She was complaining about pain and wanted up. As I put my arms around her to help her get up, she slumped. And she was gone.

... this was hard. because ive experienced the death of my parents at 16, im a mom to be at the end of october, so losing my little nugget would be heartbreaking and ive come very close to losing my husband in afghanistan a few times now... so i would chose those three. but since he is in afghanistan... and his death would be devastating for me at this very minute, im going with spouse. now i need chocolate.... >.<

    OR an adopted child.
    Or a step child.
Any child close to me, really. It seems so wrong to die before a child. I know it's life, but, really, I'd rather not suffer those losses.

If I remember correctly the death of ones spouse is the most devastating on average. It's the only one I haven't experienced. Of the remaining 3, loss of a child was by far the worst.

I cannot imagine. I lost my husband and the grief was incredible. I am not sure if I would be able to keep sane if I lost a child.
