Israel, the only Jewish nation in the world, thrives as a democratic nation tolerant of non-Jewish religions and immigrants. Israel has nearly six million Jewish citizens comprising nearly 75% of its population of 7,869,900.
[Israeli Prime Minister Benjamn Netanyahu] says if Israel doesn't stop it, then "60,000 infiltrators are liable to become 600,000, and lead to the eradication of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state." More than 50,000 Africans have poured into Israel since 2005, seeking to escape persecution and poverty.
Israel cannot remain a Jewish state if non-Jews gain enough seats in its parliamentary government. The country does not have a constitution and its open, democratic government could ultimately lead to its demise through the ballot box -- if not through war.

Israel exists as a modern nation because of the Jewish plight during the Holocaust of Nazi Germany in the 1940s. The United Nations Partition Plan for Palestine in 1947 guaranteed an independent Jewish state.

Not my business to choose what Israel does with their country. I am not the world police. It's up to them. We have enough business of our own to worry about without worrying about non violent problems in other people's countries. Geez what should they do just die? My God how selfish is that? The US took in more Asians than ever last year and no one said word one. They were not even refugees. But people who are in grave danger are complained about WTF?????

I feel that not only Israel, but many European countries and the U.S. (namely all "Western" countries) are in trouble as well regarding immigration...I feel immigration from nations not shown to share one's cultural values and a willingness to assimilate should be severely limited. It's every nation's God-given right to survive!!

An open, free society is the best counterpoint to the rest of the Middle East. If they don't have a Constitution or other protections in place to ensure that people can't do to them what has been done to the U.S., then that's a major oversight that needs to be corrected instead of a reason to close their borders, especially if that means they're closing their borders to people fleeing from genocide.

Actually I'm tied between choices on one hand if they don't reduce it they risk social fricton due to them becoming a more diverse society on the other hand if they reduce it the risk becoming a society prejudice against non Jews similiar to the societies which they originally fled.

Israel doesn't have an obligation to anyone but Jews. The UN approved the nation based on its mission to serve as a homeland for Jews and to protect Jews around the world.

Wow... Had the United States stuck with THAT prevailing attitude in the early 1940's, there would be no nation of Israel. I'm not saying they should throw their borders wide open. My opinion probably lies somewhere in the middle, with some sort of immigration limit, as well as concerted efforts to assist in ameliorating the circumstances from which the Africans are fleeing. No one leaves their homeland for frivolous reasons. And some of the intolerant attitudes expressed here spit in the face of Israel's history. So many seem to have forgotten. Especially tragic since some of the ancestors of some of those Africans helped to defeat the Kaiser in WWI and the Third Reich in WWII. But regardless of that, the hardline intolerance here is ironic, and chilling.

And how many of them practice Judaism? How many are Christian? And of those who are Muslim, how many of them are peaceful, and merely seek refuge? This article certainly fails to provide estimates for any kind of religious breakdown of these numbers. It merely echos Netanyahu's panicked shrieks of, "The Africans are coming! The Africans are coming!" Of course religion is a practical issue and concern for Israel. But religion doesn't aways tell the whole story of a population. And painting an entire people - be they Africans, Muslims, Christians, or Jews - is lazy, sloppy, ignorant, and intolerant. And many of the comments here smack a bit of, "Deutschland Erwache"...

If Israel considers their land to be as sacred as they say, they need to stop the infiltration of those who aren't Jewish. If they don't, they'll soon be outnumbered, and Israel will no longer be considered a Jewish State.
