Adults Relive the Glory Days With Their Own Proms: Cute or Lame?

For most of us, prom happens no more than once or twice. We still remember the date, the dress, the wet smooch and the corsage, but we're happy enough to leave all that in the past.

But in the Facebook age of the never-ending high school reunion, an increasing number of U.S. cities are hosting "adult proms" for "kids" in their 20s, 30s and even their 60s, The New York Times reports.

"It’s not cheap, but it’s special," Ashley Moeller, 25, who attended the adult prom in Green Bay, Wis., with her husband, Kurt. She spent $140 on her tangerine knee-length ruched dress, about $50 for gold shoes, $30 for a spray-tan and more for hair and press-on nails.

"I've been thinking about it for weeks," Moeller's friend Randa Genke said. "I could hardly sleep last night I was so excited."

Do you think adults should have another chance to recreate the "best night of their lives"? Or do these people really need to grow up?

I just think it shouldn't be called a prom. It should be called.........something else. But calling it an adult prom makes it sound like they're trying too hard to be young again.

That's what parties are for, folks-- don't relate it to a high school thing. You got past that. Grow up.

i didnt go to my own prom and never felt like a big part of my life was missing later in life (despite people thinking that missing prom would be a mistake), but i think its sweet that grown people still see eachother that way and want to relive it.

I think it depends. Some people never had the chance to go to their prom for whatever reason, and really wanted too. Other people just can't let go of stupid youthful politics. I think it really depends on the context.

ohhhh. i think that it would be soooo fabooooo to show up at a prom with my beer belly, bald head and crack whore girlfriend at our old prom and rekindle our youth because of our insecurities and bouts with denial because we're getting old.

    It's time to grow up....

It's like those that dye their hair, get face lifts, whiten their teeth to headlight bright... it's just vane people that can't let go of the past and are somehow afraid of being themselves.

It's LAME! You can't Relive your prom night, unless you wan't the same date that night or if you married that date you went with to the prom. I went to my Class reunion and some of the women still act as if they were in HS and the guys they still want to chase the girls that they wished they could have, but then again there's the the one's who are committed to their present relationship and have moved on with their lives. PROM is from your HS PAST not the Present or Future. HELLO PEOPLE!

I will admit, I had fun at my Sr. Prom. Do I want to do it again? No, I like the memories, the reminiscing. If I were to do it again, it would be with a different girl, so it wouldn't be a recreation, it would be completely different.
I say, let the past be the past, it's ok to visit, but we need to live in the present and live for the future.

Prom is a night to be able to sneak that illegal stuff in the punch bowl and dance on everyone you see with your dress half way up. Not for adults to ruin.

Why try to relive high school days? If you want to go out on a nice date with your significant other and you have the money to spend on a nice outfit and accessories, why not just find a nice cocktail party or something to attend?

You know some people missed their prom so this is a chance to relive it. Who says adults can't have fun or party. Let them do what puts a bright smile on their face.

It's not really "prom" if they take their current significant other. Think about it. Was there someone special AT THAT TIME that you were hoping to go, or went to prom with? You can't relive those days. Even if you could go with your prom hopeful from way back (as I could) they are not the same person, neither are you. Prom was our entrance into the adult world at the end of high school. It was about all that could be and will be, not what was.

Doing it now, it's just a fancy night out.
