A man that I work with told us yesterday that he killed his brothers German Shepherd because it bit his niece. (see below)

I do feel bad for the girl and she wasn't really hurt that bad, and the dog had never shown any aggression before, the way he "bragged" about shooting it appalled and made me so angrily sad. He said he shot it but it didn't die right away. It suffered for a while before it finally died. He though that was really neat because he said it should feel sufferring for what it did. I cannot even stomach talking to him anymore and we used to be friends. What is your opinion of this?

Sounds like this guy has issues. Anyone who takes any sort of pleasure or feeling of weird gratification out of killing an animal disgusts me, I find them to be sick and twisted. I am sorry for his niece having the encounter with the dog. Just a couple of questions in my mind, how old is the young lady? Did she startle or hurt the dog? (sometimes when little ones "play" with the dog, they can be too rough). Many dog breeds instinctivly snap or bite when they feel threatened or are harmed, whether the harm was intentional or not. How old is the dog? And finally ( I really have more questions) have the dog and little girl interacted before without incident? Again, sorry for the little girl being scared and hurt. Really sorry this jerk felt the necessity to put the dog down in such a painful and cruel manner. There are way too many big dog rescue organizations who would have taken the dog and corrected any behavior problems before finding the animal a new home. What a shame.

Wow I truly love animals and hate to see them suffer. But this is cruel and something nobody should ever do to an ANIMAL OR PERSON! Any living thing should not go through this! If that dog bit his niece then too bad send the dog away to a pet store or something but NEVER hurt the animal. This make me angry inside and sad when I hear stuff about animals like this. Animals feel pain too! How would that man feel if someone shot him and let him "feel the pain" the only time you should "feel the pain" is when your doing crunches and have to hold the last one. I truly feel sorry for the dog :( But life goes on and we have to live with this everyday

This guy is SERIOUSLY screwed up! Not only do I think that he shouldn't have killed the dog but he shouldn't be bragging about it and he DEFINITELY shouldn't have let him suffer. If I were you I would call the police or animal control for animal cruelty RIGHT AWAY.
Was the neice his brother's daughter? Because if it was it honestly should have been the brother's decision. And what makes me so sad is that it could not have been a malicious thing that the dog did. She could have been playing with him and then the dog bit her. i mean it's not like a dog can say "Hey stop that! It's annoying" So they bite! It's a natural defense for most animals!
This guy truly disgusts me!!!
As for the friend issue I would never speak to that man again if I were in your situation.

i understand for killing the dog, becouse something simaler happened to my brother. one of the neighbors dogs bit him and dad killed the dog by breaking its neck. instint death and dad didn't like doing it either but he had to becouse they thought the dog was rabid, becouse it didn't have its shots or nothing. but it wasn't thank god, and my brother was ok. but any way, that guy when he braged about it and didn't try to kill it imidiotly (can't spell lol) then he has problems. you never want something to suffer.

She is 10. I wondered the same thing, did she taunt the dog? I now have issues with even talking to him at work but I have to everyday.

Well that's stupid! I know he's angry because the German Shepherd bit his neice but did he have to fuking kill it?! That is sooooo not right! Like Barefoot~Peace and Love! said he should be charged with animal cruelty...and i also love German Shepherds.i have one and if anyone tries to hurt her,i will beat the living hell out of 'em.

I think he should be charged with animal cruelty.... that was just awful.... I love German Shepherds... and the dog was probably playing.... that is so sad....

No-body will probably listen Weeda....you know how people are they don't want to deal with these issues for the most part....
You could call animal control...anonomously(spell check) and make a report in case another incident occurs over there.... what do you think?
