+14The Roman Catholic Church started in the year 1054 C.E. so it is less than a thousand years old. That is when the Patriarch of Rome declared his independence of the council of Patriarchs of the Orthodox Catholic Church and established his own church with himself as head (Pope). Satan is much older. He appears in Jewish texts from an early date and if the identification with Shahar or Shachar of Ugarit is correct, he is even older than Abraham and the beginning of Judaism. He does have a prominent role in the Catholic Church and much of the mythology and iconography associated with him does come from Catholics. But I believe he is actually more important to fundamentalist Christians like Church of God, Church of Christ and Assembly of God. The imagery has tremendous appeal, especially as the independent rebel of Paradise Lost by John Milton. Given the choice between a sensual, imaginative Satan and a sexless repressive Paul of Tarsus, many of us would choose Satan.

And Spain is fantastic, I love their easy going mentality... Haven't seen much of it on senior trip unfortunately, but I'll definitely visit again
