Chapter 2

After all this time it is still devastates me to remember the last few days I had with Jax. Five years earlier; the night tonight is pitch black perfect for sneaking out without being caught. The moon is hidden behind the blackest clouds I have yet to see this winter. The freezing arctic wind whips my hair around my face spreading chills down my body. I came early to our usual spot so I could put a spell around us to keep the temperature outside perfectly aligned with body temp. I had just finished my spell when I realized Jax was somewhere near, his smell his unbelievable. The smell of winter mixed with the heady scent of pine needles, and his all around masculinity. Standing by a red wood tree looking as if he owned the world; with eyes the unmistakable color of the sea right after a storm.
I couldn’t help but to stare because he took my breath away. I had never seen someone stand so straight and proud besides my brothers and me. Walking over we quickly embrace for it was becoming more difficult to see one another without anyone finding out. Jax was the first one to break the comfortable silence that had lasted for a minute.
“Have I told you how beautiful you are toady and how much I love you?” Smiling happily I look around for a moment to see where I had put my present. Seeing it I rushed to get it suddenly embarrassed that he might not like it. “This is for you I know you broke your last one in the fight we had against some others so I replaced it. I also know that you love me just about as much as I love you. You are also the most handsome man to walk this earth; I will never stop loving you.”
Jax after unwrapping the paper from around the knife is overwhelmed. The knife was a mid century looking dagger with Whelsh and Irish markings on the front and back of it. The dagger reminded him of when he was once a great Lord and fought hard for his king and country. He couldn’t believe how lucky he was to have found a woman has great as Tonya.
Her brothers thought her weak and not strong enough to handle all the heavy burdens like death and such, but they had no idea.
“Darling this is the most amazing thing I have gotten from anyone in this life. I cannot believe you have done this for I now have nothing for you. That is quite unfair don’t you think?”
Tonya was very happy for she had seen the look of wonder than pure happiness in his eyes. “Well the only thing I want from you I already have, your love. I am richer than anyone I know but you have brought the happiness money could never bring me. You were there for me when my parents were murdered by the Semis, you protect me when we go on the hunt for those of our species who kill. I would not be who I am today without your help so I thank you.”
Pulling Jax to the ground to lie besides her they continue for the rest of the night making love and creating their own heaven in the short time before reality sets in. Back to the present time; Tonya looks at her snazzy apartment that her Brother Tanner’s latest girlfriend insisted she get. Looking around she sees it as if through another’s eyes, she has missed Jax so much over the years. He had been her best friend, lover, and the one person other than Tanner that got in and out of trouble with her. When she had lost him it took all her brothers to come together and help her through her mourning. I think Felix had an idea somehow that my despair went way deeper than losing ten warriors, but he never said a word. I knew I must be the one to end Jax’s life, because I didn’t want to hate my brothers or anyone who had killed the man I love. Plus I would want the same if mine and Jax situations were reversed it Is only fair.
The next night I went to start my first night searching for Jax. I looked at some of his old spots he used to hang out by in the shady part of the city. I never understood why until after he died and I came looking for information. For the right price anyone down here will tell you what you need to know. It also helps that most others are afraid of me and my brothers. Who wouldn’t be with all our gifts, each one by themselves is amazing but together unlike anything you have ever seen. There is a club down on seventh that even makes others want to go somewhere else. It has the feel of the most evil others you have only heard about in stories. People human and other tend to go anywhere but here, looking around I see only guys pushing drugs. There was some hookers selling their bodies for a cheap ride, and finally I see the bouncer at the door. This guy is 7’ tall with an ugly jagged scar running down his face. His eyes remind me of a black bottomless pit. Taking a big breath I cross the street go around the corner and don’t stop until I’m right in front of the bouncer.
“You know who I am, are you going to play nice or is it going to get nasty?”The bouncer has a look of such disgust like he had churned milk in his mouth. He didn’t say a word just opened the door.
“Thanks I’ll see you later.” Walking in the first thing you notice is how strangely beautiful it is. The long bar is black with some scouring in the wood showing it has had a few years of use. The bar tender has an amused look on his face, it’s probably hiding how stupid he thinks everyone is. There are many others here some are more powerful than others but I can sense that there is only a few as powerful as me. Walking up to the bar I causally glance at some kids seated at the bar stools, they jump up so fast you would think I had said I was going to kill them or something.
“Thanks for the seat boys, why don’t you run along home now I think your mom’s are getting worried.”
Quickly looking at each other they mumble their agreements and head for the door. “Hey lady I don’t want any trouble in here so if you’re going to start trouble you had better leave. The bar tender Is a fool I think to try and tell me I can’t cause trouble. I start laughing very hard, to think he was trying to tell me Tonya Valenchini what I can or can’t do. Making sure I have eye contact with him I ask very quietly, “Do you know who I am? If you don’t let me tell you this, you should be much more careful who you speak to like that because the next time it could mean your life.” By the time I had finished talking the pub had gone quiet waiting to see what would happen. The bar tender was looking a little green so I figured I would let him go easy this time.
“Don’t worry I am not going to kill you. I am only going to kill one thins night and it isn’t you.”
Realizing I wasn’t going to kill him he just turns his head and serves someone else leaving me to my thoughts. I get up to have a look around and I see Pablo an old acquaintance of mine with his back to me. Smiling I go over and whisper in his ear, “I have been looking for you. Turn around slowly or it could mean your life.” Pablo turning very slowly faces me.
“Ahhh…tis my old amiga from the good old days. So you have come to kill Pablo have you. I am not that easy to get rid of.”
“Hello Pablo, of course I want to catch up with you before I go off with your head. But I believe you have not given me something that I want.
Smiling because this is how it has always been between the two of them Pablo throws open his arms.
“Well, come here and give this old man a hug. Where have you been these last years?”
“Pablo you know me I don’t like staying in one place too long. When people call to say the need help, most of the time I am the one how is sent to kill the bad boys. You should try to beat me my skills have grown so good I doubt even the old master would have complaints.”
“Tonya you should know better than to use the master as a source of your ego. For shame we taught you better than to succumb to that.”
“Oh Pablo you very well know that isn’t what I meant, this I s me you’re talking to you don’t scare me. I wanted to know what you are doing tonight because I have to leave now. My brothers are calling me to come back and speak with them. If I keep ignoring them one or three of my brothers will be quite annoyed.
Thinking quickly he told her, “I can’t meet tonight how bout in three days time. Meet me here midnight.”
Alright see you soon. Oh you might want to watch your back the next person to come up behind you might not be so sweet.”
“Tonya I have known you for years you were never sweet. You are dangerous and very tempting, so I offer you this piece of advice. Be careful who you talk to not everyone can be trusted.”
On her way out the pub she nods her head to let him know she heard. In the back of the room in the darkest of shadows Jax’s watches her leave. Now the fun begins because the hunted just became the hunter. Following at a distance he follows her waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike first.
