The recession and slow recovery have kept unemployment above 8 percent. Employers refuse to hire new employees in times of uncertainty. Many employers have laid off or reduced their workforce to avoid bankruptcy during the recession. Has this led to fewer employees working harder and longer hours?

Techcrunch reporter Sarah Perez reveals how 80% of the workforce works longer hours equaling an extra day of work per week. Do you think the recession has forced fewer employees to work more hours?

Since our dramatic cut backs a few years ago, I work 10-12 hour days and about every other weekend. Of course the city, county, state and Feds could care less as they pile even more regulation, fees, and fines on top of small businesses.

Oh please, what fees, what regulations and what fines? First if they are doing what they are suppose to be doing then they wont get fined. Ever thought about that.

Employers don't want to hire and train more people in the current economic climate (looks like they don't buy the "getting better" deal any more than I do) so they work their current employees harder without paying them more for it.

This is the way emplyers make you worth less per hour if your salaried. Less people get hired so the suckers on the bottom work much longer for the greed on top. Less workers

Not what they are talking about. They are referring to salaried jobs that pay you the same whether you are putting in 40 hours or 70 hours a week. There is no overtime pay. There is no more in your 401k.

Yes, everyone can just up and quit their job, especially in this job market. That's being realistic. But I can't expect a liberal to think like a logical adult.

Also, I own my company. I'm talking about the millions of others in that situation. But, you being a liberal, you only think about yourself. Typical.

It's my company, dumb ass. I don't quit. but I also won't hire thanks to your messiah.

Where in any of my post am I looking at the government to be my mommy. In fact the government trying to be the mommy of every person and business is the problem. Plus, your a nanny-state lib, you love having the gov being your mommy.

Your like a broken record. Or a mentally retarded person, which I'm beginning to believe to be the case.

Failure? I do quite good for myself and my family, and based on the fact that you were undoubtabaly a union employee, I'd bet I'm doing better than you ever did. And being that I own my own business, I keep very busy. Why would I want a second or third job. LOL

"A black man did it?" LOL, what's that suppose to mean? Were did anyone ever talk about race anywhere in this entire post. Was that your feeble attempt and trying some Saul Alinski tactics because you are losing the argument? LOL! Sad, but funny.

Yep. Typical liberal. Typical union worker.

By the way you spell, I doubt you ever had a real job. you've been on the public dole in some form since day one. Spent most of your life smoking weed, letting the union wipe your ass and living off of others. Bet you've never been married and had kids either. Am I right?

You don't get more money if you're salaried. My husband works about 70 hours a week. His salary number looks quite good but not when you take into account what he does (he is one of only 3 people in the world who knew how to do a specific thing a few years ago) and how many hours per week he works. Plus, the cost of medical insurance, food, gas, etc... have all increased dramatically over the pat 10 years and he has barely gotten a raise. However, the company for which he works has made money hand over fist.

The old hourly rate, union jobs with time-and-a-half overtime and double pay holidays are almost gone. As are pension plans and retirement health care. You keep talking about an America that doesn't exisit anymore.

Hmm, I don't remember bitching about that. Try again.

I don't need the unions' mob rule and extortion tactics to take care of me. I can make it on my own.

Anything over 40 is time and a half for me. Plus our coumpany offers a .65 bonus per hour just for showing up on time and not missing any days.

    Good question Fef.
Those who have jobs work longer hours for two reasons; One is the prices on everything essential are doubled since the community organizer, a commie agitator, became resident in the "White House." That is a huge 50% effective pay cut for the working people which forces those who can and have jobs to work longer. Second reason is that economic uncertainty makes the companies relactant to hire new workers because each one cost more in taxes, insurance and in many other ways, so they prefer to pay overtime to people they already have.
