5'3", 145 pounds, size 8 -- is this her dress size or her shoe size?

highdesertgemini 2008/08/30 02:58:51
8 is her DRESS size, of course!
8 is her SHOE size!
8 is her HAT size!

I was reading about the "success" record of severe weight-loss treatments a couple of days ago (yes, it was in a rag, but...). All of the people had lost tons of weight but are now having issues again. No surprise there.

What did surprise me was this: one of the women's current stats were given as 5 feet 3 inches, 145 pounds, and wearing a size 8.
I'm 4 inches taller, 10 pounds lesser in weight, and there is no way on this planet that I could squeeze myself into a size 8 anything!

So, I'm wondering whether the size 8 is her shoe size (or hat, or ring, maybe, but those would be huge on me!), or if I should be able to wear a size 8 dress... What do you think?

I am 24 years old. I just lost some weight. I am now 145lbs, still 5'3 and a size 8 is perfect on me. Everyone carries their weight differently. I used to have a "ghetto booty" and when I lost a lot of my weight I realized that the way my pants fit was different because I didn't have to accomodate a big butt anymore. They now fit more normal. But yea, I think size 8 is her dress size. But it could be her shoe size too since I am an 8 in shoes too. So its possible :)

Yep, she probably is a size 8, which in the UK is a size 10.
She may be much fitter and therefore have more muscles which would make her frame smaller.
Her body will carry her weight differently too, everybody is different.

It could be her pants. I am 5ft 4in. I weigh 144 pounds.
In American Eagle I wear an eight. But Levi's are huge. I can wear a 5 in them or a 3 if they are boyfriend cuts.
I think you also have to realize body proportions. Some people have a long torso which means the weight can be distributed more evenly. Allowing them to wear a smaller size. But if someone was short on top weighing 145 then yeah a size 8 would probably give them a bad muffin top. And if you cant see or feel a visible hip bone at this weight and height then you shouldn't be wearing a size 8 in pants. That just means you probably aren't working out or eating right so your weight is mostly fat. And in this case that would not fit into a size 8

I just always presume they are quoting dress size -- guess I should quit doing that, 'cause it could very well be pant size... All I know is, having lost 10 more pounds, there is still no size 8 dress or pant that I would attempt to squeeze into! Thank you for your comments!

It cant be her ring or hate size that would be huge!! and I am 5'3'' 145 lbs and I wear a size 4 sooo I doubt she is a size 8 in dresses which leaves the shoe size and I wear and 8 but I have really wide feet for my height and so i think its probably not any of these choices

I absolutely thought the same things, but, apparently, it is most likely her dress size -- although I still prefer to think it is her shoe, or ring, or hat, size! Thanks for the comments!

It really depends on where you come from. I don't know how sizes work in America but in Australia I'm 5"3 and a bit (162cm) and i weight 145 pounds (65kg) I'm a bloody size 12! I wish i got my clothes in America, it'd make me feel a little less fat.

I obviously don't know how sizes work in America, either! Is being a size 12 really such a bad thing? I do hope not, because if I had to squeeze into a size 12 dress I'd have to be resuscitated so I could breathe! Thanks for the comments!

It's definitely her dress size. Don't forget what an immense difference MUSCLE makes. I'm 5'3 145 pounds and a size 6 at Old Navy, 8 at Target. I'm pretty muscular, always have been and no one believes how much I weigh (they all think I weigh less).

Caro, I'm the same way i'm 5'4 149 lbs and I wear a size 6 at the gap, old navy, and 7/8 juniors at Kohl's. I about freaked out when i saw that on the scale but i realized my clothes still fit LOL. Muscle does make a HUGE difference. I have been a size 10 before and weighed 145!!

    I'm guessing...
I'm 5"4... and I weigh around 123 pounds (i'm English so I usually do that in stone)
I wear what would be size 6 or 4 tops, depending on fit, and size 6 to 8 for jeans.
But then again, measurements in America could differ in inches =/

    I would vary from 6 to 10 i'm guessing.

    which is the same as...

8 jeans measurements america differ inches vary 6 10 guessing

I think it depends on how old you are, your body type and where you shop. A woman's size 8 is larger than a Misses size 8, for one thing.

Also, I think sizes may have changed in the last decade or so. When I was in my 20's, I weighed around 140-145 and am 5'10". I could wear an 8 easy, and in some cases a size 6.

I'm pretty sure it depends on all of those things, and also that sizes have changed more than once over my life-time! It's how they keep up from feeling like we are too fat, or something. Ah well... Thanks for your comments!

I think it depends on the clothing...I'm an inch and a half taller and my weight varies... depending on the day of the month...lol... from 117-125 and most of my clothing is size 5.... some of my shirts are bigger... but thats only because I don't like em too tight or with everything hanging out.
