There are better ways for young girls to work out their absent or unresponsive Daddy issues besides marrying someone old enough to be their Daddy. Men who do that sort of thing are lecherous creeps who steal the youth of these women to maintain the self deluding notion that they are still virile and relevant. Society doesn't need middle aged men pretending to still be twenty, with the pony tail and earing and the young girlfriend that strangers think is his daughter until the ugly truth becomes clear. And when people pretend to not pass judgement on it in public, they are just being polite. Privately, we think the guy's a pervert taking advantage of a damaged young girl. It's disgusting.

Is it fair for him to make his wife be a nurse for him changing his Depends and feeding him apple sauce in 20 years? When he's 60 will he be able to keep up with the kids as they grow up or will he have prostate trouble and failing eyesight? Is he going to be an 80 year old father going to his daughter's high school graduation on his mobility scooter? Is he going to be there for the grandkids? It's horrible, it cheats these young girls out of a a proper husband, father and partner to grow old with.

It can work, IF, they are both truly in love. Love knows no age. Relationships take work, but if both parties want it, it's worth it. I am a 22 year old girl, my man is 54. We do love each other, we've been together almost 4 years. But, if they're not in love, & she's just using him, they better end it now!!

Mental age is more important than physical age. It's a little creepy to think about, but unless we know about the maturity of both (especially the younger), we can't tell. If both are willing, and able to competently make that choice, it stands about as much chance to work as several other such relationships.

16 year old? Hmmmm.....me thinks 16 is too young to get married in the first place.

Child molestation? I thought there were laws against such a age difference... My cousin was sent to jail for 5 years for having sex with a 15 year old girl when he was only 17... So how the hell can this 51 year old get away with this? And what kind of parents allow this to happen? Any man that were to even ask my daughter at 16 years old to marry him especially a 51 year old would get his ass beat real quick.

It might work if their ages were 70 and 35, but a 16-yo is still a child. And a 51-yo should know better. The phrase "child molester" comes to mind...

In 1985 I married a man 23 years older than me and 3 years older than my parents. We have been married 26 years. We met when I was 18, he was 41, I was 21 when we married. There are ups and downs in any marriage. However I do not see the Hollywood couple lasting more than 2 years.

My husband is 19 years older than me...when we met we had both been married before and have children and grandchildren. In other words, we have a lifetime behind us. A sixteen year old has her life ahead of her.

16 is too young to marry,
18+ because he/she would be an adult and they can make their own decisions. But for the most part it can work. My dad married my step mom and they are eighteen years apart.

it may or may not work , but for the best part if the 16 year old is really committed to this man , then it may. i am thinking positively and saying that it will. no one wants to be told that they're not going to work out even if they may not.

Come on man... It's statutory rape and child molestation... I was in law enforcement before I joined search and rescue...I've arrested teens for having sex with teens...I've seen a 17 year old get prison for having sex with a 15 year old...in fact he was my cousin... So tell me how its legal for a 51 year old to marry a 16 year old? In Georgia that would be a felony... Not to mention its flat out nasty..... It's a publicity stunt that's all it is.

My husband and I are 11 years apart in age, but we hardly ever even notice that. Eleven years is certainly manageable, but 35 years? I just don't see it. Especially if one person is so young. Perhaps the young one wants children, but the 51-year old is far past their reproductive years. It just sounds like trouble to me.
