$5-a-Month Cable Network for Dogs: Fun for Fido or Doggone Ridiculous?

Yes, you read that right. Dogs are getting their own cable TV network, and you have to pay $5 a month for it, TODAY.com reports. Don't get us wrong: we love ourselves some pups, but even we think this whole doggie TV network is a bit ridiculous.

dogs

"A lot of people laugh and think it’s funny or a gimmick," DogTV co-founder and chief content officer Ron Levi told the "Today" show. "But then we explain the research and the science behind it. This is a great opportunity to makes [sic] dogs happier and their lives more pleasant while they are home alone during the day."

Wait a second ... that last part is the problem. With pretty much everyone male and female working at least one job these days, Fido is usually home alone, forced to entertain himself. In fact, we have at least one friend who swears her dog loves TV, so maybe it's not such a ridiculous idea after all.

DogTV has created nearly 800 programs for dogs intended to “relax, stimulate and expose” them to situations they encounter in daily life, TODAY.com reports. The network is only available in San Diego right now, but it's hoping to expand in the coming months. And back to that monthly fee, the channel is free for now, but will eventually cost devoted owners $5 a month. Think it sounds like fun for Fido? Or doggone ridiculous?

I don't think my dog $5 a month for her total care (food, water, toys, etc).

I love my doggie, Princess, but she is the stupidest dog out there, which is quite surprising since she is part German Shepard, which and generally smart dogs (well doggie smart) but anyway, she wont even look at a tv, even if a doggie is barking on it, she just doesnt understand. So what would be the point of buying this for cable if my dog is to stupid to even understand watching tv...???

I can think of far worse wastes of money. Hopefully people won't use it in place of spending time with their pets, but it's something I'd definitely use when I have to be out.
*Edit* Yes, I know dogs can watch any channel, but the point is that the channel is specifically designed for dogs... if, like me, you believe your dog does pick up on moods from television (mine seems agitated during tense moments, when the music changes), it might be worth the $5 for a channel like this (instead of searching for 'soothing' channels).

As a matter of fact that lazy dog watches TV all day. - For real. Her favorite is that movie Rio - the animated film about the blue macaws. She loves the music. I have three parrots also and maybe she makes a connection. Lazy Molly

If your dog likes tv Animal Planet or something similar would likely work just as well.

Watching a LOT of tv could actually be bad for your dog's eyes. Most wide screen tvs refresh at 60 hz. Human eyes see this flicker free. Under 70 hz dogs see a flickering image. If you have ever had to look at an old flickering monitor for awhile you know it can cause eye strain. I doubt however that there are many dogs that are tv addicts.

    7. I heard dogs view television picture as flickering. Is that true?

If my two dogs would watch a doggie show I might consider a $5 channel that would entertain them, but they would probably howl and piss the family off. lol.

Isn't this doggie channel a farce, and it is really intended for the average Liberal Democrat
mind-set and their viewing, as it seems their main stream media ‘never’ shows what is going on in the world if it adversely affects Liberals and Obummer?
