4th of July: Do you celebrate America’s independence, or is it just an excuse to BBQ?

July 4th is one of my favorite holidays. I can't think of a better reason for throwing a party than to celebrate the birth of our country with amazing friends and family, grilling fantastic food, on a warm summer day!
I’m always excited to see what creative ideas people come up with for their July 4th BBQs. Check out some of these great 4th of July parties! http://catchmyparty.com/parties/browse/4th-of-july

Regardless of any historical person whose life carried some similarities, the character played by Mel Gibson did not do those things, and since nothing in the movie specifies a historical person upon whom his character was based, the existence of any such person is just conjecture. Using a conjectural relationship to a slaveholder to discredit an imperfect, though important character in a movie, is like using a rotten apple you ate as a child to discredit a pig roast in which an apple was placed in the pig's mouth. The two are NOT related, and doing so just makes you sound more like an anti-Liberty, uneducated goober than you already did.
The movie was historical fiction. The two characters are obviously not the same, and you're just grasping at straws to try to save your argument.
People died for this founding of this country. The least we can do is celebrate their contribution.
I like my 4th of July with my dad cause we fish till It gets dar then we go to the island to see fireworks but everything has changed for me
If you take the time to listen, you can still hear the shrill of those collective pipes.
I just wish now that America would Bless God.
On a more lighthearted note, I love the summertime cookouts, BBQ grilling (being an Alabamian, I know it's an old Southern tradition), family gatherings, and various games and activities. But ever since I was little, my favorite part of the 4th of July was the fireworks.
