42 Percent of Americans Will Be Obese by 2030: Think It Will Happen to You?

You!

You might be slim and sexy now, but by the year 2030, 42 percent of the U.S. population will be obese, according to a new report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Meaning, there's a good chance that you will be one of them.

And it gets even worse: 11 percent of Americans will be severely obese, defined as more than 100 pounds overweight, according to the forecast. Pretty scary, considering that about two-thirds of Americans are already overweight, and about 34 percent of adults are currently obese.

So what's causing the problem? No one trigger was identified, but the authors made projections based on factors like the cost of healthy and unhealthy foods, gas prices and Internet access, ABC News reports.

Obesity has been linked to cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer, meaning there is much more than vanity at stake here. So if you haven't done so already, get yourself a gym membership and clear the junk food out of your pantry. You have 18 years to beat the odds!

It won't happen to me because I won't let it happen. Blame whoever you wish, but in the end each of us are individually responsible for our own weight.

Um, being a little fat slows you down slightly. An eating disorder can cause death.

your statement makes no sense. Obesity is the Leading cause of death in America. educate yourself before making yourself look unintelligent on the internet....how embarrassing..... And i have an opinion that indeed i would prefer to be too thin than too fat. get over it and clean up your language little girl. im a lady and i deserve respect ;)

My statement makes no sense? Really? Educate yourself on a little mental disorder called anorexia. We're not talking about being fat and skinny we're talking about a mental illness. Get your head from out of your a**

.... if you were a good student and not a discipline problem, Catholic School was great ... all-in-all, I really should not complain and I have experienced situations where I was given a job over another applicant simply due to my schooling.

The stories you've heard are correct ... old-time Catholic School had it's strict discipline, zero-tolerance ... was actually expelled 2x and reinstated due to family connections < s >

.......... sent my kids to same school I attended

Treadmills aren't the answer. Two miles on a treadmill is about 200 calories which is equivalent to about 1.5 candy bars. The right answer is 'don't eat the candy bars and do use the treadmill for your heart and phyical condition.

.... no Snickers Fitz .... hang on, I'm grabbin' my chest as we speak !

Ya' know the great thing about treadmills Fitz .... they put one right beside the other and I can shoot-the-breeze with the neighbor ... and some of the neighbors increase your heart-rate pretty high < s >

I am not even sure I believe the stat. Kids, now are more aware of the effects of junk food and girls play more sports, then they used to, I dunno. I hate to say anything nice about children, but they have gotten saavy about things we paid no attention to.

How can they make this claim? They don't know how many may decide to go on a health food diet. Let's take control.... talk to your loved ones who need help losing weight. Find out WHY they are obese don't just pass judgement!

Starving is not the answer though. It will make you put ON weight. Your body thinks you are starving and will store everything you eat as fat to burn for energy. Never eat less than 1200 cal a day. ; ) I have been both thin and fat. For many reasons, the most important being health... you should strive to be healthy... no matter what weight that is for You personally.

Everyone's metabolism slows down as they age but it can still be controlled with proper nutrition and exercise habits. I think the problem today is that they're making things too accessible for people which are making them lazy such as all the drive-thru's to obtain none other than fast food. Nowadays, everyone can pretty much get anything from the comfort of their cars or armchair.

My metabolism is so fast it is actually a problem. Also, the reason why the number will increase is because more children will be born and grow up in already overweight households, and develop lifelong unhealthy habits. I'm not a little kid so that's not going to happen.
