30-Pound Cat Having Trouble Finding New Home: Would You Adopt Him?

This fat cat is just as cute and sweet as any other feline. But weighing in at a whopping 30 pounds, SpongeBob is having a hard time finding a new owner. "I think people are intimidated," Kendra Mara, associate director of the Animal Haven shelter in SoHo neighborhood in Manhattan (where SpongeBob was dropped off two months ago) told The New York Post. "They think they’ll need more space for him, but really they don’t."

fat cat

SpongeBob was apparently allowed to eat unlimited amounts of food all day before his owner had to go into a hospice. In fact, he weighed 33 pounds when he arrived at the shelter. But he's already lost three pounds. "We eliminated dry food and put him on an exercise program," Mara told the Post. "Even if he just gets down to 24 or 25 pounds, that will make a huge difference on his body." Would you give SpongeBob a new home?

I'm sure he's a lovely friendly, warm and engaging cat. He's a ginger. I had a ginger cat for 17 years. What a fantastic cat he was. I was devastated when we had to put the old sod down.

However this cat is a real fat bugger, he's too fat for me.

thats because the owner wasnt taking care of it properly letting it eat too much. the cat has already lost weightbeing in the shelter they are letting it get exercise. and different diet.

I love cats. He's adorable. Would have no problem having him as a pet. He's only obese because of what they feed him.

He's not just fat he's big. There are some large breeds of cat I had two that were half maincoon and they were big, not 30lbs & not fat muscular in fact. This cat may only be 10lbs over weight.

Fat cats are cuddly. Seriously, I do not understand why the people who answered 'no' gottab be prejudiced against a harmless animal. Just have the cat go on a diet..
