30-Pound Cat Having Trouble Finding New Home: Would You Adopt Him?

This fat cat is just as cute and sweet as any other feline. But weighing in at a whopping 30 pounds, SpongeBob is having a hard time finding a new owner. "I think people are intimidated," Kendra Mara, associate director of the Animal Haven shelter in SoHo neighborhood in Manhattan (where SpongeBob was dropped off two months ago) told The New York Post. "They think they’ll need more space for him, but really they don’t."

SpongeBob was apparently allowed to eat unlimited amounts of food all day before his owner had to go into a hospice. In fact, he weighed 33 pounds when he arrived at the shelter. But he's already lost three pounds. "We eliminated dry food and put him on an exercise program," Mara told the Post. "Even if he just gets down to 24 or 25 pounds, that will make a huge difference on his body." Would you give SpongeBob a new home?

My brother would be thrilled to own that cat. Its like its his goal to adopt the fattest cat possible. Probably so it can't run away from him when he wants to give it attention. xD

It's just more to love. Yes that **is very heavy for a cat, but it isn't like it has some disease that spreads to people.

If I could, I would... sadly, I can't. I already have two cats and a dog, so he would be too much responsibility.

That's an armload o' kitty. I'd take him, but I'd be very worried about his health. Hope his heart, etc., are OK.

Yes. He just needs more exercise. I bet he eat out of boredom. I'd let him outside with my three cats to roam, stalk birds, chase lizzards and bugs. He'd be happier I bet.

No, I don't want my home to be known as "home of the whopper". Seriously, though, I'm more of a "dog person". I have a poker buddy who has a cat almost that size - looks like he swallowed a basketball or something.

I had a cat almost as big.She got like that after i had her fixed. She only ate dry food.
One day I heard a loud meow and she dropped dead right in front of me.So no I wouldn't adopt that cat.
