As far as this stimulus package being passed :
The choices made behind closed doors all come at the expense of each and every citizen of the US and of the world.
Injecting more money into circulation is just not the answer and has not been for the past 100 years(and possibly even longer).
It's astounding that in what is supposed to be a free market capitalist economy the government(using our hard earned dollars) will bail out corporations that often produce below average goods and services.
This could be argued as a very communist approach.
It all happens in spite of income tax(Federal & State from what we work so hard for), sales tax(from what we need to buy to live) and constant non-linear inflation(just another hidden tax).
It's laughable(and scary) that the state of California is not paying refunds to tax payers because it's claiming that it also needs a bailout. It's incredible because such an excuse would never fly in the other direction. Imagine tax payers(that's what we call citizen's now) using the excuse that they are broke as a reason for not being able to pay taxes.
Everyone is finally starting to ask the question : "Does our government exist for the benefit of the people or is it the other way around ?". Why can we not just go back to the Constitution that this great country was founded on ?
I've been saying this would happen for years now in spite of much disbelief. I hate being right about these things. Unfortunately the economy is yet to hit bottom. The bottom (if we're lucky will be in 2010). Fef is right about citizens potentially handing over votes and rights for handouts.
The sad part about depressions is that they often are the cause of large numbers of suicides, destroyed families, businesses and marriages.
The positive aspects are that many of us come back to basics. We learn to appreciate each other much more, we are thankful for our food, our clothing and a place to live. In some cases if we refocus then we are able to find work that we love and pursue for reasons beyond just financial gain.
I wish everyone the best in these times. At least they are interesting and even if chaotic they still provide much opportunity. (more) -

The cliched "Christian vs. Atheism" stance on how life began is still put forward by both sides. One thing to keep in mind about atheism is that it's really the absence of belief in a god or gods. It should really be called non-theism. The problem is that those who believe in a 'God' equate atheism with anti-theism (those actively opposed to theism).
Darwin studied theology at Cambridge and later declared in life (after the death of his daughter) that his thinking was more in line with agnosticism(those who believe spiritual truths are not knowable).
Creative Evolution is the most likely scenario and something that both sides will still battle to accept. (more) -
