The poor children. At the current time, the "poor" child is in a home that earns almost 3 times the poverty level. So, how is this a problem?

Take from the poor and give to the rich...
Lets see, last year the bottom 50% paid a whopping 3% of the total tax, while the top 1% paid 40%. Explain how we are taking from the poor and giving to the rich.
Same vein, if you give a tax break to the bottom 50%, the most that they could possibly receive in a break is 3%, and most of them are actually receiving money from the government in ADDITION to their normal wages. Give a small tax break to the rich, and they will get much more, because they first earn more, 1% of 1,000,000 is 10,000, while 3% of 40,000 is 1,200. (I'd like to give that person a greater tax break, but it is all that they paid in so they can't get more).

Corporate welfare, the largest recipient is corn growers(for ethanol) I am all for ditching this, because it uses more energy to make ethanol than it creates.

Nice set of paper tigers there.

Right now the people that are being "screwed" is the American Tax payer. The Government takes our money, but then doesn't spend it the way Americans would like it to be spent. Just take a look at the pork spending (gifts to those that helped get the slugs into office) and you will see exactly how the little guy gets it every time. (more)

This country needs to have someone that understands, and has been successful in, business. He cleaned up the corruption with the Olympics, so I hope he will clean up the corruption in D.C. (more)

It isn't global warming, it is solar cycles. 30 years ago these same scientists were preaching the next ice age. When the weatherman gets next weeks weather right all of the time, then I will believe that they can tell me what will happen in ten years.

And it may come from a group of people wanting to secede from the U.S. from disenfranchisement. We elect them in, and they refuse to listen to us. Taxes have gone from a top rate of 7% in 1913, to as high as 88% in the mid 40's to now 35%.
For the working man they went from 1-2% up to 25% on average. All of this in less than 100 years.

History of taxes from England before we declared independence. People are getting very tired of the partisanship in government, and even more tired of the wasteful spending ect. Between the lack of border protection, the tax burden, and the war in Iraq, there is more and more divide between the government and the people. At some point we will reach the "last straw".

Because if you read the entire tirade in context, you will find that he was referring to one person, who was a soldier for less than a month, got booted out, and then went and lied about it ala Vietnam War phonies. In this case, this certain person is under charges for impersonating a soldier, so wouldn't that by definition be a phony soldier? (more)

If you have 6 kids, then they are the most practical vehicle out there. If you only have one, then find a better mode and go for a smaller SUV. If you live in the mountains with heavy snow, then you probably need one just to get up and down the hill. If you live in the city, then you don't need one unless you have a large family, parking is a premium. (more)

What irritates me about them is not that the school will get funds from the sale, but that if the company really wants to help the school, then why not just give them cash, and get the deduction from their taxes. These companies are exploiting the system to get their products into a market and then out of the "kindness of their hearts" they will give a portion of the proceeds back to the school. School should be about learning, not about selling. I should know, because I was one of the top sellers during my school years. I went door to door selling fruit, pizzas, and plants for the band, and all just to get the little "prize" for being a top seller. The time that I spent selling stuff would have been better served studying or practicing my music. (more)

I don't think that we are to the soup line point, but I do think that we are on a very dangerous cliff. The more money that our government spends the worse that cliff gets.

Add to the bank failure, the Feds 1/2 point drop, the stagnate housing market, and rising oil futures, and the dollar falling against foreign currency, and you get a nice set up for a major fall.
