    I've lived in Texas.

It isn't Hell, but a phone call to Hell would be a local call.

Guess if I must, I'll take Massy. I can't stand Conservative Texas honestly. Chances are I'd get shot as soon as they found out I DON'T fall into one of the "C's" that live there: Christian, Conservative, or Cowboy. LOL

Didn't Oklahoma just ratify a No-Sharia Law amendment for no reason at all other than a few scared politicians trying to pander to their base?

I say that as I do have the choice and live here... BUT we did so well do to a lot of federal money and defense contractor money (Teddy K was a raving liberal but brought in the money!). We have great schools which bring in tons of new students that drive up rental incomes and real estate values... Unfortunately, our taxes and corporate taxes are chasing away top talent and businesses and we are losing people each year to other places. That will hurt those RE values and eventually income to the state, cities, and towns. That will hurt the state's ability to pay for all those programs...

I've lived here all my life but won't be retiring here!

I just moved from RI, which is very close to Mass... By way of minutes. I hated all of New England. The weather, the ppl. with their smuggness (that New England accent) and real lack of diversity would lead to take my chances with Texas.

I'll admit that NE accent drove me bonkers. Soda was tonic, a car was pronounced cah. I miss Boston though & wanna move back. I may be an upstate NYer but I'm a Red Sox fan & I've never been inside Fenway Park. I love the fireworks over the Charles River on the 4th of July. They've actually progressed enough in the past 25 years to elect a black governor. Now THAT is real progress.

You don't really want to get into a p*ssing contest with me, do you? I'm referring to all the progressive whatever that was posted in all caps with the original post. The word has been way overworked, overused and is becoming like the word closure - enough already. I like Texas. Have lived in about ten of our illustrious states, was born in a state other than Texas, have lived in Europe and Asia, and I still like Texas. Have plenty of good restaurants, museums, good theater, good music, I'm happy here. Glad you're happy in Mass. Truly, I wasn't trying to start anything. And sorry I took off on the word progressive, but as I said, I'm getting to where I want to pinch noses at progressive, closure, dialogue and a few more.

This will be a short and incomplete reply - first chance at computer in a week, and grandkids about to rise and shine. I dislike the "progressive" idea of bring all of your new school supplies up to teacher's desk and they now belong to the entire class. I dislike the "fair share" thingy with which everyone seems to be so enamored. I dislike the attitude of "if you're not progressive you're a neanderthal." But mostly, as I've stated a couple of times, I'm sick of the term, along with closure, dialogue.

Well, now that was good sarcasm. However, I don't think that healthcare thing is working out all that well. Good for you, you have a low divorce rate. Education is up, also good. Yay, Mass. But I like Texas. Let me repeat that, you don't seem to be grasping what I'm saying - I LIKE TEXAS. I l like black coffee. You may like cream in yours. Fine, like it, works for you. Black coffee and Texas work for me. Have fun in Mass. but I'm having fun and I like living in Texas.

Texas, but I'm far from a lemming. Texas has top quality education available, much lower taxes, some great medical facilities, low taxes, freedom to defend yourself from physical assaults, and many other great advantages.

Texas's record on public education is improving... but it still pales in comparison to much of the U.S. http://www.manhattan-institut...
It has one great hospital... vs. LOADS of em in Boston....
Texas has no income tax, (which is partially why their schools tend to be more dismal)
but they have higher (per county) property tax rates.
Kiplinger's states that Mass. has wrongly earned the Taxachusetts moniker. http://www.kiplinger.com/tool...

Oh... as for defence against physical assaults - I think that is a universally American right..however, I have noticed that hate crime rates (such as the dragging murder of that gay man a few years ago) are much higher in Texas. Perhaps thats why they need those guns? :)

Hardly convincing evidence you show. And Hate crimes are more like political crimes. A crime is a crime. And the guys who drug the man to death, who I don't believe was gay, but was qualified as a "protected minority" vs unprotected ones, hence a political crime where some are more protected than others based on politics. In Texas we consider dragging very bad no matter whether the person is a political preferred minority or not. We executed the SOB's who did that. But those crimes are extremely rare, and the punishment dealt precluded any repeated offenses.

We use the guns to make the criminals think twice or cease to think at all. Man breaks into my house in the middle of the night, I shoot him, call the police and have the garbage carted out of my home knowing my family is safe and sound. In MA, I'd be up on charges most likely, especially if he was one of those politically protected minorities. Of course in the dark it's hard to tell race, ethnicity, of sexual preference, but not difficult to tell that someone is in my home illegally threatening my family. I tend to judge people by their actions and not by some preconceived notion.

Now add in that my House in TX in one of the nicest suburbs of Dallas is probably only a fraction of the price of a comparable house in the suburbs of Boston. I'll keep my residence in the Lone Star state and damn Yankees deal with all that government intrusiveness in MA.

Hmmm.. yet again facts don't back up what you're saying: http://www.disastercenter.com...

    Crime statistics:
Massachusetts had a total Crime Index of 3,026.1 reported incidents per 100,000 people. This ranked the state as having the 42nd highest total Crime Index.

Texas had an estimated population of 20,851,820 which ranked the state 2nd in population. For that year the State of Texas had a total Crime Index of 4,955.5 reported incidents per 100,000 people. This ranked the state as having the 8th highest total Crime Index.

For Violent Crime Texas had a reported incident rate of 545.1 per 100,000 people. This ranked the state as having the 13th highest occurrence for Violent Crime among the states.
For Violent Crime Massachusetts had a reported incident rate of 476.1 per 100,000 people. This ranked the state as having the 21st highest occurrence for Violent Crime among the states.

That's why folks are moving from Taxachusetts to NH.
By the way, America spends more on education than any other country.
So... why are American children consistently doing worse than children from much poorer countries? I blame the teachers / state education system.

And MUCH higher property taxes. We in Mass. see NH residents come here for better educations, better services, better jobs with higher pay, and better homes with lower property taxes... but then go make purchases over the border in NH to avoid paying the sales tax, lol.
