I'm supporting my local Mexican community by dining in their fine establishments and getting drunk with them on their day of heritage.

Holidays in remembrance of bloody battles are the best. The fact that it's was a battle of Americans beating on the French makes it all that much better.

You minored in History, so what was you major? I don't know what you majored in but what ever it was they taught you how to be angry and obnoxious. You probably think that your smarter then you really are. When ever people that think that they're smarter than everyone else has someone try to teach them something they very quickly get angry and become obnoxious... just like a drunk. Sounds just like you. Your professors in History didn't teach you very well did they?

Planning to go to a Cinco De Mayo party at a local Mexican restaurant in Phila. PA. Meeting some friends. Sure its an excuse to drink Margaritas and/or Tequilas and Mexican food but that's A okay in my book. Speaking of books its a book signing party. Maybe on the way to the eatery, I'll see Colin Farrell filming his new movie in center city.

I being Mexican-born find this to be another pointless holiday for people to get drunk & dumb. Besides, it is not a 'true' Mexican Holiday anyways. I rather celebrate a more Important Mexican holiday which is September 16th: Mexico's Independence Day.

Also, there is a far more important celebration today which is my Brother's 5th Anniversary!

Unfortunately not many know that Mexico's Independence Day is the 16th of September because they don't read-up on a country's history because they thing it is not of important to their lifestyle. Heck, I am sure many people around the world think that USA's Independence Day could be Memorial Day, Labor Day, etc... because they don't care and don't read. It can go both ways too.

And thank you, I hope my Brother & his Wife have a good day off (probably working all day)

Most people here in the states just use it as an excuse to get drunk and loud.

Why are white, american college kids celebrating Mexican independence? It's odd.

American history has to do with other cultures
    Native Americans etc
    including Mexico

in order to understand all of American history we must learn all of history

Oh i love the french. I love their fries, their kisses, their women, their pastries, their wine... I love how they helped us out during the revolution. I love the musketeers. I love a lot of their literature and poetry.

I also love any story involving a war where we either save or kick their ass.
