Would you work overtime for 2 weeks to get your daughter some cool shades and "hip" blue jeans ?

I have 3 daughters and I have raised them to be realistic and practical. They are given a very modest allowance for clothing and I will not contribute a penny more, it forces them to think outside the box, like mixing second hand items with a few new items to get the look that they want. They actually enjoy finding "treasures" at yard sales, thrift stores, flea markets, etc. and most months they come in under budget and have a little bit left over to apply toward other things that they want.

No, because I wouldn't have to work overtime to buy cool shades and blue jeans for my daughter and I bet a lot of other people wouldn't have to either. For the smokers, cut back on cigarettes per week, there's the money. For the alcoholics, try being without alcohol for a week, there's the money. If you can spend $100+ on cigarettes each week or alcohol, why the hell can't you afford nice clothes for your kids?

If they want clothes other than the ones I will have provided they will earn them themselves. (Save allowances, get a job, etc.)

think that would be the point in teaching your daughter how to save her money so she can get what she wants.

Don't have a daughter but on my job I often put in overtime because the work was time-critical and teams were needed on weekends. The money was just an added incentive. I can't work at a job doing something I don't believe in passionately.

Does she deserve to be prepared for life when you're gone, and to be able to stand on her own two feet?
    Just asking.

That's all covered in the 'more' part. Believe me, she is more than capable of standing on her own two feet.
    Thanks for asking. :)

If she wants some cool shades and hip blue jeans, then she must be old enough to get a job and get them herself. Believe me, if you do this you may not be appreciated.

I had 5 daughters..i would rather spend time with them. I taught them to like what they had. Funny they all dress very nice and they are fairly thrifty....I see no need to spoil a child..if they wanted it that bad, they could do extra things around the house and get paid and eventual earn it. That was best.
