A FEW TIMES, I WALKED IN MY FRIENDS' or NEIGHBORS' HOUSES but FOUND

NO ONE. I FELT VERY UNEASY and EVEN STUPID, WORRYING WHAT IF

SOMETHING BAD MIGHT HAPPENED BEFORE or AFTER I WAS THERE, and

PEOPLE WOULD BLAME IT ON ME, EVEN THOUGH, I DID NO WRONG.

Unless I know the person VERY well (as with a family member or other relation), I won't even consider it unless I hear a call for help. Even then I'll go to the door and yell 'hello' several times before reassessing the situation. To me, a person's home is sacrosanct. You *do not* enter it unless in the case of a dire emergency (fire) or unless invited. That goes DOUBLE for kowards in Kevlar. People who enter homes uninvited should EXPECT to be shot on the spot!

In other words, you should have gone with your gut. :-)

It would depend on the circumstance. It it were a relative, I might. If a close friend and there was a reason something might be wrong inside, I might. A stranger's house...no.

The phones at some clinics keeps calling my home repeatedly if a friend OR

neighbor missed a daily dose MED. When I fell & paralyzed for a while, my

husband flew across the country, to ASIA, or EU for his work. He called those

Clinics to excuse me from my duty but THEY NEVER STOP CALLING !!!

If it was a friend or family member, sure they could be in distress, and unable to respond, if that were the case they might not survive waiting on a 911 call. First they would send Law Enforcement to Investigate, then they would call an ambulance and when they arrived, They could take the body to be pronounced Dead, and for the rest of your life You would regret, not acting when something seemed wrong, no thanks, i'll act.

I never knew it's a FELONY to enter a stranger's house without permission. And here I've been watching "Law & Order: SVU" for years!!!!!! No wonder when the officers arrive at a place where the door is ajar, they tell the landlord or whoever called 911, to "STEP ASIDE, WE'LL TAKE IT FROM HERE."
It's good to know these things! Thanks for the info!

Yes and we, as neighbors, already had an understanding for situations as such. If my door is ajar or theirs, we go in cautiously and check on each other. If nothing is amiss, we will at least close up the home and then later inform our neighbor of the incident. Form some kind of neighborly friendship so a situation doesn't arise such as the one you are talking about. :o)

I did in a friends house and scared my friend in an extreme way. He jumped in big jumps away from me and landed into a stove. Had I scared him more he would have been dead. But I have to admit,. it was very funny.

Was your friend aware that his door was open? Maybe you saved him from being robbed or killed by a burglar. I hope your friend wasn't injured too badly. Of course, your "surpise" visit could have killed him...............but you entered for good reasons.
Some elderly people here in Hawaii have been beaten to death by "druggies" either going into the wrong house (that's what they said in court) or church, looking for money/valuables to buy drugs.

WoW, Hawaii sounds a bit spooky, like some areas of California. Yes he knew the door was open at the time. He had gone to the bathroom. I knocked and went in past where the bathroom entrance was and waited. He went past me without looking to the right where I was. And every footstep he put down was when I made another step in time with his. He was in (fairly good health afterward). He was mad but he was the sort of person who always pulled similar pranks so I found it a bit hypocritical of him, since I almost never did. He lived in a small town that had a few rowdies so it on rare occasions got nasty.
  • Lovita Mr Chin 2012/10/05 04:44:09

Yeah, the druggies are all over the state. The first elderly woman who was beaten to death was a babysitter. The druggies mistook her house for a drug dealer. Fortunately, the child she was babysitting wasn't hurt.
The second woman who was beaten to death was a good friend of my bishop. She was a Buddhist priest. The druggies came into her church, looking for money. When she told them she had no money, they beat her to death. In court, they said "the drugs made them do that." Both times, this happened in broad daylight.
I hope your friend remembered to keep his door closed and locked after you scared him! And it's a good thng it was you who entered his house!

Well actually he (my former friend now) isn't the sort of guy that learns lessons. Tell him to not jump in a fire and he spends the next 10,000 lifetimes jumping in the fire to burn himself to a crisp and another 10,000 lives throwing many other people into a fire before he says,. "Ya know,. I think that might really be hot".
Sorry that the incident actually happened to a friend,. that's terrible. I have seen people that go instantly to the "I'm an alcoholic or drug addict" excuse. And most of the time I just don't buy it. Though I met a very old lady that was the exception and she really couldn't sit still for any length of time. Most so called addicts never get that bad though.

I used to think I lived in a safe neighborhood, but not anymore. When the dogs bark, I'm prepared to hit the alarm system if I see suspicious looking people coming down the driveway. I may not have enough time to call 911 and describe the problem to the dispatcher. The burglars in my neighborhood aren't frightened if they find someone in the home. They seem to love my neighborhood!!!

I broke down on the side of the road and needed a phone. I knocked and the front door was open ,the screen was unlocked so I went in and noone was home. I didn't use their phone but, walked down the road to a neighbors house and asked to use theirs. I don't guess the owner ever knew.

Wow! I wouldn't have walked into a stranger's house like that, unless I was being chased and was in fear for my life. I would have banged on the door and made sure anyone in the house heard me, so I wouldn't get shot. Lots of people own guns these days.

It was about 20 years ago and I didn't even lock my doors at that time. We didn't worry about neighbors, If you came home and found someone in your house we never gave a thought about them being host . We only considered people as neighbors. Everybody borrowed from everyone else. If I had extra I would share with you. Same if you had extra. Neighbors.

20-30 years ago, life was much safer. Now days, most of our neighbors all have security alarms in their homes. (including us!) This is because we have had so many burglaries on our block. We've also had our mail stolen too, so we all have mailboxes with locks. AND we have drunk people walking down our drive way at 4:00AM! Very scary!!! My sister was almost attacked when she went to get the newspaper one morning. You just "think" you are in a safe neighborhood, until you encounter a stranger tresspassing on your property in the dark.

I don't think I would walk in, I would probably call loudly to see if anyone would answer. If they don't, then I'd get my cell phone and call or go back home and call. If I felt that something was wrong, I'd call the police.
