I dunno, last time we had some 'Solid' Engineering, two planes went into them and they turned to dust! Packed neatly in the basement come to think of it...but pay no heed!

Yeah, the twin towers were build in the seventies at a time when substituting sub-standard materials was a rampant practice. I bet this is different though. I would be willing to swim in it at least once. ;-D

They might have substituted materials, we do it all the time, but when you're building a sky scraper certain things have to be adhered to and the engineers were realllly proud of themselves once they were finished. By all accounts, even if half the materials were substituted for substandard materials. There should have still been one thing left remaining. The core. (Or at the very least some of it. )

    Anyway, offtopic >.<

I was thinking of these multi-level shopping malls that just collapsed without being hit by anything. I don't know the details but I remember reading that they used dirt cheap metal bolts and watered down concrete. It was pretty pathetic.

This CEO I know in the fastener / bolt industry will not fly on airplanes he knows were built using the cheaper bolts / metals.

So building materials do count for something and I bet many people would like to cover that up too if it were true. They have their precious reputations to protect.
