The both hurt like hell... but at least I'd be able to inhale the smoke and pass out before the real damage is done.

Well...I'd rather freeze if it was only a bit below the temperature that would kill you, so you more or less sleep. Second choice is burn to death if it was like as hot as the surface of the sun. Insta-crispy.

I was in a fire not too long ago, I was in a coma for a while, but I was never in pain...the smoke actually makes you very sleepy.

Ones hypothermia sets in you become extremely tired, you fall asleep and it's done. Perfect example is an episode of the Twilight Zone called Midnight sun.

I'd rather freeze to death because you get very tired during the cause of hyperthermia and just fall asleep. When you burn your most likely feel the pain until all your nerves have burned away.

Freezing to death is quite pleasant, as reported by those who have, and were revived.
You feel comfy, and warm, and sleepy due to hypoxia....and you go to sleep, and then slip quietly and painlessly into cardiac arrest.

I have seen a burn patient take 13 hours to die....The only reason he didn't feel anything is because we loaded him so full of pain meds...that he couldn't.
It is a horrible, agonizing way to die.

i would think that freezing to death is less painful and your body temperature will just drop to point where you fall unconscious, then shut down and die.

Both would be horrible, but burning is much worse. Your body cooks from the inside out, and it's a slow, horrible death from what I understand. At least with freezing you eventually will black out before you die. Neither one is good, but I couldn't take the fire.

Burning is painful, from what I understand freezing is similar to falling asleep except you never wake up.

Generally when one feels a great deal of pain, the body helps the person out by fainting. I would like to think I'd pass out relatively quick if doused in flames.

In extreme cold, the blood flow shuts down the body. It is a peaceful death.

In extreme heat, the nerve endings in your body will all fire at once-- you'll be in agony every millisecond that you're still alive, praying for release.
