Would you marry someone so they can get their green card?

Depends on how close of a friend they are.

Other than the fact that it's against Federal law, is immoral as heck (what're you getting out of this? How much are you selling yourself for?) and can be just plain dangerous......NO. I know someone who did this....an object lesson in why it's a stupid, stupid idea.

Apart from it being against the law, how is this immoral or dangerous?

Other cultures see marriage differently, they see women differently. Some men g their green card and their own personal slave, sexually and otherwise. Someone who asks that of you would have little compunction against demanding a lot more.

And you don't see the immorality of this? If I have to explain......

In America, slavery is illegal, so is spousal abuse. If a woman married a man to get him his green card, and he turned around and treated her like a slave, she could divorce him. If he refuses, she can take him to court. If nothing else, she can flat out leave. There are many options for the abused spouse.

The typical person wanting to marry to get their green card doesn't want a slave, they want opportunities. That's why they come to America in the first place. They hear the idiotic tripe about this being the land of opportunity and they come looking for it. When they don't get any before they have to leave, they look for options to stay longer. This is the fastest option.

Not only is it very unlikely for the person gaining their green card to turn on the spouse, they are so desperate that they are willing to pay for all of the expenses, plus a little extra. There are actually people who make a living off of marrying people to get them their green card.

Marriage does not mean living together, it doesn't mean having sex, it doesn't mean sharing anything at all. Marriage is the legal joining of two people into one family. This can be done over the internet, if you know how. These two people never even have to see each other, if they have the right connections.

So, the danger is very minimal.

Not if it was for a green card alone. If there was real love between us and we'd stick together forever, yeah! ^_^ But I'd have to also wonder what her definition of forever was because mine isn't till we get bored.

Not if I don't love them. Marriage is a mutual binding of two who love one another - or rather, that's what it's meant to be. I can't stand any who marry for "convenience" or self-benefit as the main reason.

No I would only marry someone if I was in love with her. I would marry someone if it happened to be someone I loved and it would happen to mean the person would get her green card but not just so that she could get her green card.
