I have had to do that before because it was right in the way of a door or something I had to get to [ happened a long time ago ]. But, I stood off from it when I hit it with, I think it was a broom, and knocked it down and ran like crazy into the house.

the best way to take care of a hornets nest is with a CO2 fire extinguisher...then crush the nest with your shoes/boots....

Only at night, when they're asleep, and only if I had to - Otherwise, why bother them?

4 hornets stung my brother's knee while he was mowing around a bush next to our house - he never knew the hornets' nest was there. After sundown my Dad found the nest and doused it with gasoline. Insects are no match for petroleum product vapors or soap.

Dave, you may be right about the "can't fly at night" part, but I watched those clowns on Duck Dynasty and they were after a honey bee hive and the leader told the rest of the group that "Bees don't sting at night". LOL Never laughed so hard when they started trying to get that hive in a bucket. He learned they WILL sting at night as well as day.

Well, those boys on Duck Dynasty needed you there to advise them. Ended up, their father went back there with his grandson and had a smoke machine and was able to get it with no problems.

Sure. You take a quart or so of hot soapy water, throw it on the nest, run like crazy, then come back and step on those still kicking, flat on their back on the ground. I hate the dang things. I can so no earthly use for them in the grand scheme of things whatsover. They have got to be from the lower end of the gene pool, something like Pelosi and Reid.
