Quantcast

Would you jump on a grenade to save your fellow comrades, or would you run thinking about your wife and kids ?

Difficult question to answer. Falls into the same category as would you deny Christ and his gospel of love for the sake of Islam to save your life? Would you sacrifice your life so that others may live? Good question. I have yet to be put to the test. The only honest answer would be yes and it would have to be by someone who has experienced this difficult choice and survived or not.

I have had the honor of meeting a Medal of Honor winner who did just that. Saved his fellow soldiers. He survived but was very disfigured. What an honor to shake his hand.

This is not something that anyone would give any conscious thought to unless they found themselves in that situation. For the people that have done this it is highly unlikely they did it with any forethought. In order to do this there has to be something inside you that responds instantly with no real thought behind it and it means that they put the other people that are with them before themselves. Not likely they consider anything outside of the moment.

It's a tough question to answer. In my 3 combat tours, I never gave it a thought. I suspect those young heroes didn't either. You have a strong emotion with the team you are in combat with. I don't think anyone goes in thinking they will or won't. When the time comes, it happens or it doesn't
