Would you jump on a grenade to save your fellow comrades, or would you run thinking about your wife and kids ?

Difficult question to answer. Falls into the same category as would you deny Christ and his gospel of love for the sake of Islam to save your life? Would you sacrifice your life so that others may live? Good question. I have yet to be put to the test. The only honest answer would be yes and it would have to be by someone who has experienced this difficult choice and survived or not.

If I had a wife and kids, I would throw myself on a hand grenade. It is a despicable way to live.

I don't have a wife and kids to think about and as much as I would like to say that yes I would in a heartbeat do that to save my fellow soldiers I can't. Nobody really can because they haven't been in that situation and have no idea how they will react. That is one of the things that makes the one who does it a hero, he doesn't really think about it, he just reacts.

Sorry, world, my family and I go first. I have no intentions of being a hero; in this sorry world, heroism has lost its glory.

Yup, part of the job. I don't think I'd hesitate to save another's life, especially when it's in the "job description".

I'd image I'd kick/throw it away, then run? If it's been cooked, well then so are we.

Grenades kill. I would get as far from one as I could. That's thinking about MYSELF, my husband, and my kids.

The military trains people to do unselfish things. I would not do it. I would alert others by yelling and run like hell. Obama wouldn't do that so why should any military person?

I don't think anyone knows what they would do until they are faced with the decision ... and it usually happens in a split second

Military training and the individuals values would help make this decision. I myself do believe: "There is no greater love than to lay down one's life for one's friends." I also know that it is easier said than done if the opportunity ever entered one's life.

Selected this answer because of the simple fact that, in the heat of battle no one really knows what their actions will be.

No one knows until the situation arises, what they would do in any type of emergency. In most situations there is no time to think about family a person just reacts instinctively. Who knows.

I'm not married and don't have kids. So thats not a consideration. What it comes firm to it's what kind of bond you might have with your fellow soldier/Marine/Airman or Sailor. I'm sure there are instances where you would indeed make the ultimate sacrifice.

while I haven't been in that situation, I HAVE been in a situation where military training took over, and yes, it's effective at obliterating self preservation for the greater good... so yeah, I believe I'd jump on a grenade if I had no other way of saving my comrades.

If i had a wife and/or kids i would save my own life.
If i didn't have a wife or kids but my comrade did i would jump on a grenade to save him.
If we both had a wife and or kids i would get the grenade and throw it.

Heroes are born, not planned. Nobody knows how they'd react in a situation like that. Sure, we'd all like to believe we'd be all noble and catch a bullet or shrapnel for our friends, but in that split second almost anything can happen. Even then, somebody who might bolt and say F.U. to his buds one second, might react totally different given one or two seconds more to think about it. You just never know. You CAN never know until it happens.

I couldn't answer this question truthfully until I actually came face to face with the real thing. Sure, I could fancy myself some sort of super tough guy, and maybe I am, then again, maybe I'm not...
