Would You Get Blasted by a Jumbo Jet's Exhaust for Fun?

I actually did get 'blasted' by a fighter jet in the Navy. It was scary and burned. I was launching an aircraft that got delayed, so the next plane in the order began moving forward out of order while I was not paying attention to his move. His jet blast caught me, I immediately dropped to the ground and grabbed hold of a pad-eye. The blast was pulling my helmet off and burning one side of my face, so I had to let go. The pilot of the jet I was launching quickly shut his engine down concerned I may get blown into his intake. It sucked. Scared the heck out of me. Very hot.

scary stuff! that heat could blast ya pretty bad......suprised people ignore those types of warning signs?!?!

If they developed gear that would stop the exhaust from braking my bones and burning my skin, then maybe I would try it.

you can stand behind a harrier jet.......i wouldnt though!

If you are under one when it is hoovering you would be pinned to the ground and toasted to extra crispy.

I want to visit San Marteen for that very reason. There's a bar on the beach with life ATC and a surfboard showing the incoming flights. It's an airplane lover's dream.

I would think that someone on either meth, have extreme risk-taking issues (or have a death wish) would do that.

Wouldn't that collapse/explode your lungs due to the force of the engine?

I'm not a student of turbine technology of the aviation variety, but I would guess it would really, really hurt, along with the runway burn! People should not be trying to copy stunts done in movies or stop trying to outdo Evel Kenivel.

A landing jetliner would be coasting down and throttle up after reversers engage.

In the Pushing Tin video, it has nothing to do with thrust, it has to do with wingtip vortices. Wingtip vortices are strong enough to upset another aircraft in trail, so in theory they would certainly be strong enough to send a 180 lbs. man flying. As for St. Martin, it's all about the thrust when the airliners are taking off. Just You Tube some St. Martin videos and you will see what I mean.

I'm aware that these vortices can account for 5% of the total drag & are well-known for affecting (usually smaller) aircraft trailing behind. See plenty of low approach videos over beaches but haven't noticed anything like that, it'll be more like an outward gust once the vortices contact the ground.

In the sketch I attached, you can see as the "Wing" passes thru the air it drives air downwards (using Newton's 3d Law of Motion to provide some lift, the rest from Bernoulli's principle via the 2nd). At the wingtips there are vortices (rotating towards each other at their tops) generated which grows as it leaves which makes the plane's wake resemble a carpet being rolled up on both sides.

Another way to see an analog is to look at a smokestack in a light breeze, the 'steam' drifts sideways into two vortices but rotating upside-down compared to an aircraft.

NO way would I stand in the wind of a jet engine taking off . It would break every bone in your body, and skin you alive at the same time tossing you like a leaf in a category 5 hurricane.

And of course if you were close enough you might even come out well done ready to be served on the dinner table. Those engines are like monster blow torches.

Close enough, and I would say that every bone in your body would be broken having you tossed like a leaf on runway stripping the skin right off of your body, and cooking you at the same time.

Think of being blown buy a 150,000 hp leafblower & hairdryer, a jetliner's turbofan doesn't produce as hot an exhaust as fighters with after burners or JATO packs.

AAAhhhhhh Now I see. A picture is being seen now Jets taking off from a aircraft carrier, and an airport. No fire coming from the passage jet.

although I prefer to leap into the front of the engine.
