I don't want any marriage, let alone an arranged one. I wouldn't trust my parents to find a good fit for me. Not even a little bit.

I am having trouble coming up with a scenario where that would even be possible. I think in the end if it were more of an introduction than an arraingement but the crux of being arrainged is you have no choice to back out: a deal is a deal.

[clarification edit]: I'm not talking about some people I have known where the parents basically introduced their kids and set the whole thing up. I'm talking about how Bin Laden got his last and youngest wife. The only arraingment there was between Bin Laden and her father.

They were outlawed after the Communists took over China, but the cultural pressure to be married is still so strong. Before the Communist Era in China, it would be a 4 year old marrying an 18 year old.

I have several friends who had arranged marriages and they are just as happy and content with each other as those who met by chance.

You are thinking that it is a forced marriage. That is not the case. Arranged means often that the parents or relatives know each other and think their kids would do well together. The people I know who have arranged marriages had the perfect right to say "No" if it did not suite them. Sometimes it is very hard to meet someone who has the same cultural and lifestyle background as yourself. This is really not different than meeting through a dating service but is done among families. You are thinking of the disgusting habit of some to marry 13 girls whereas often an arranged marriage is between couples in the late 20s or 30s and they just did not click with someone yet.

No, but it actually works out surprisingly well for the folks (Indians) I know who have them.

But that's also a cultural thing. It's simply not part of my culture.

I would be happy if Sandra Bullock offered me her hand in marriage and one half of her net worth! I think most men (and some women) would go for that!

We can always settle this with a friendly duel at dawn. "Gentlemen, choose your weapons." My weapon will be my lawyer who will serve you with a lawsuit for "Attempted Alienation of Sandra's Affection." LOL !
