Would you date a registered sex offender, if you were head over heels and he hadn't offended in years?

On what was done. If he is a registered sex offender because of something pertaining to small children, then hell no. That's disgusting, and I could never trust him. But if he's on the list because he was 19 or 20 and he had sex with his 16 or 17 year old girlfriend, then maybe...

It depends on the crime as to whether or not I date her. Public nudity, having (but not making) child porn, giving a kid (depends on age) a porno mag, or having sex with her slightly underage boyfriend (say she was 19 and him 15/16 at the time), I'm fine with. Rape, forcing children into prostitution, or making the child porn, not so much.

I'd be too worried people might think I'm a sicko too, unless, maybe the offence was something trivial that shouldn't have even been registered, like public urination.

Depends what he did. I would be fine if he had sex with an 17-year-old when he was 18 or something.

I don't know, but I do not agree with the people who are labeled offenders because when they were 18 they dated a 16 year old and the parents didn't like it. I want to know where and who the REAL offenders are...

I agree. When a 16 year old consents to sex that cannot be considered rape. They are much too old. If that was the way our jails would be overcrowded and the real criminals, where would they go?

I think a 16 is capable of making that decision. Now whether its a good or bad one comes later! I just don't like the idea a person has to carry that with them their whole life.

I would have no way to identify that, and thus can only go on convictions. My children's safety comes first.

If already a repeat offender or multiple offender, than no. If not over 15 or more years ago, not a chance. Otherwise, realize those guys are never cured of that, and many start families so they can have live in victims the state cannot make them stay so far away from or cannot tell them they cannot be alone with. My stepmother works with these people in prisons, and says the reality is that mostly none will recover from this, and that they will move on to more tricky methods of predatory pediphilia. Another thought has just occured, be sure to ask how much of the "long time" was merely the result of incarceration. Then, no matter what is said, you purchase a background check. Sorry, but with this, you invite a very strong sickness into your life and heart, and before you commit further, you better investigate to see about the history first. Goodluck to you, whatever decision you make.

No problem, I tried to answer it as unbiased as possible, though like most my true colors on the subject showed. Think of all the victims who fall prey to these people, it's just bad news ya know? Lookin' out for ya I suppose.

Sex offenders are among the most likely to relapse and the least likely to rehabilitate.

Mind you this is only an opinion but, Roze, being 17, you are willing to go out with someone who now has a record for lascivious behavior with a minor and you are still a minor. That would be a repeat offense in the eyes of the law and a neglect for it as well. That can sit with you?
