A local Dallas First Baptist Church has launched a Grinch Alert site to note those businesses and organizations that are naughty or nice in regards to the concept of Merry Christmas vs. the generic and politically correct "Happy Holidays." On one hand, I don't know that businesses should be turned into the local Christmas Store, but on the other hand there's been a great deal of pressure from some quarters to minimalize and marginalize Christmas. Locally a DFW area man made it his way of spreading Christmas cheer to fully decorate and donate beautiful Christmas trees for display in public places. He donated one to a branch of a Chase bank. Some anonymous person complained. Now the story is coming out that it was some man with a foreign name and accent who demanded it be removed or he would take his business elsewhere. Imagine if someone asked the local Jewish deli to take down Hanukah decorations or if the local Indian grocery was asked to remove decorations for what holidays they celebrate. While I think decorations should be tasteful, what gives someone the right to make a decision for every other customer or employee? Since when are businesses so weak willed and cowardly?
