Would terrorism exist without Muslim extremists?

As far as I can remember, terrorism has only really existed in the public eye since the WTC was first bombed back in the 90's. Does this mean it is a result of Muslim extremism?

There would be some but not the everpresent day after day disgusting display that Muslims are responsible for.

I should have worded the initial question differently. Your answer is the kind of response I was hoping to attract.

Thank you. The question wasn't confusing.

Yeah, I know it wasn't, but a better worded question would have lead to a much better debate. This question as it's written may lead people to believe I'm Muslim bashing, which was not my intent.

Yeah. Still puzzles me how a fertilizer bomb placed about 50 feet away from the building caused a whole side to collapse. With no visible ground crater... And damaged buildings over 250 yards away? All too unlikely.

So...what's your conspiracy take on it?

I hate to be classed as a conspiracy theorist/conspiracy nut, and I don't have a definitive answer, but I still cannot comprehend how a bomb placed 50 feet from a building can damage the entire front face causing collapse, yet leave surrounding structures relatively unscathed.

There are mentions of other buildings being destroyed by the blast, but none listed. Plenty of stories by survivors, but no facts about damage other than the federal building... It's been 15 years, and still I have no answers regarding the other buildings. The WTC bombing damage was listed.

Maybe it did happen the way it's purported to have, but I doubt it.

Without a doubt. See Ted Kaczynski, Timothy McVeigh, and Jared Loughner.
  • JustMeJP FunkyMunky 2011/05/20 14:47:19
    JustMeJP
But were they classed as terrorists, or serial killers, serial bombers, religious extremists or something else?
  • FunkyMunky JustMeJP 2011/05/20 15:07:11 (edited)
    FunkyMunky
Ted Kaczynski and Timothy McVeigh are "domestic terrorists". Kaczynski is also a serial bomber. The jury has yet to meet on Loughner.

I don't think any of them claimed religious motivations.

No offense but honey you better get off of facebook and into a history book if you think terrorism is new school.

The idea here was to get people's opinions, not to say it didn't exist. Only someone completely naive would not know that, but since 9/11 the only terrorism reported has been Islamic.

"As far as I can remember, terrorism has only really existed..."

You need to do your homework on the definition of terrorism and I am sure you will find that there has been other forms post 9/11. Now reported is a different issues, it is your own responsibility to broaden your sources of information and to question all that you receive.

You skipped the "in the public eye" portion there, which is most important. My premise was that people didn't have it in their mind until these events. I also cannot remember any event labeled as terrorism before the WTC bombing.

No I did not miss it which is why I said you need to do your homework on the term. It was around before 9/11, which meant it was in the public domain. Do you think the word was created and left in an incubator. Either way the answer is no, even if you cant remember.
